Default TT in SB, BB squeezes

BTN is a relative unknown, so few hands not much can be said yet, probably not super passive or anything.

BB I have about 220 hands, 20/17, 5.5% 3bet, this is the 2nd time (in 10 opportunities) I've seen him squeeze from the BB. High flop aggression.

    Standard fold?

Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

    BTN: $25 (100 bb)
    Hero (SB): $37.16 (148.6 bb)
    BB: $25.35 (101.4 bb)
    UTG: $51.56 (206.2 bb)
    MP: $38.06 (152.2 bb)
    CO: $25.55 (102.2 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with T T
3 folds, BTN raises to $0.75, Hero calls $0.65, BB raises to $2.40, BTN folds

    Hero???

Wierd, hand converter must have stripped that out - OP edited to show that BTN folded.

Oh, and yeah - just for Savy, this is definitely somewhere to know your range! 4bet looks so FOS and we're too shallow to call and mine I think.

I'm pretty happy folding here, any idea what he had the first time he squeezed and is there anything that'd make him think that you're folding too much or the BTN is too loose from recent showdowns?

Even if so unless it's something major you're either way behind or a tiny bit ahead and having to play OOP so I'd fold, but if you think set mining is profitable here due to him being too aggro post flop and/or paying off later streets then that may be ok too.

It's zoom, so I don't know what history he'd have with BTN. I don't know what he had last time he squeezed, that hand ended when he cbet the flop after squeezing CO+BTN from the BB and getting called by the BTN.

As for me, again it's zoom so I wouldn't expect him to have a real good read of me unless he's very observant, but stats wise he might think I fold quite a lot to 3bets, since I very very rarely call them OOP, either 4betting or folding 90%+ of the time.

Yeah, I guess although the stacks might not be so deep, they are deep enough that mining could be OK here if he was more likely than average to pay off.

OK, I can see that I don't particularly want to play it OOP, but I feel like I turn a fairly good hand into a bluff if I 3bet here, and that I manipulate BTNs range to my disadvantage. I'm grateful for your advice, and I want to play this better, but it'd help if you could elaborate a bit on your thinking process.

What about what Savy said about it being slightly ahead or way behind if he calls. Just giving up on most flops if called by the BTN?

What factors do you think make 3betting a more merged range from the small blind advantageous (compared to a more polarized range from the big blind) as a default strategy?

I don't know about way behind if he calls, if most ppl are 4betting QQ+, AK. It's just not always the easiest hand to play OOP when it's vulnerable to overcards flopping, but that in itself is not a reason not to 3b it.

Thanks for an excellent, thought provoking question.

    1. We are perceived as having a stronger range when we 3bet from the SB, so we can 3bet a wider value range and not worry too much about being 4bet bluffed by an aggro BB or BTN.

    2. Because we're perceived as having a strong range when we 3bet the SB, we're more likely to get a mid-strength hand to showdown.

    3. If we 3bet the BB with a wide range of bluffs there's no-one behind to cold-call. That's obviously not the case in the SB.

    4. If BB is a habitual cold 4-bet monkey, we have more hands we can 5bet.

    Anyone got any more?
