Show a wolf as first pic, then any dog pic.

The notion that selective breeding is somehow wrong is ludicrous to me.

Without selective breeding, humans wouldn't have <insert food here>.

In 'pure' bred dogs, the issue is inbreeding, not selective breeding. Then again, without inbreeding we wouldn't have spoonitnow since he's from the souf so you win some you lose some, eh?

No, read the article. The problem is selective breeding, but more precisely selective breeding for aesthetic traits, traits which are often counter-functional.

We want selective breeding so we get domesticated animals that won't bite your face off in your sleep, but what I am opposed to is the length they go with purebreds. What they do to pugs is borderline animal abuse considering the severe health problems they get later in life.
As an owner, you're almost always better off with a random crossbreed from a shelter than a trophy dog.

A staffi Dalmatian cross is an awesome dog. Broad chest, knuckle skull, masses of strength and boundless playful energy. It's what I'll get when the sprogs are a couple of years older.

Slightly off topic, but I find it irritating how many people think that toddlers and dogs are a good mix. There are 30M+ upvote videos on youtube of dogs chewing on babies. Either goes to show how unfit the large majority is to keep animals and raise children, and/or my irrational overvaluing of humn life.

We won't get one til the youngest is 4. I think that's a little bit excessive as younger is prob ok but I don't want my daughter torturing the dog.

I'm not saying people shouldn't have babies and dogs in the same house, just that some people shouldn't.

I think that there's a danger of hysteria when it comes to dogs and children. Dogs should not be left unattended with children, that's responsible. Not having a dog because of fear it will bite the child is daft. The vast majority of well loved dogs will not bite a child, and the benefit to the child is more than you might expect. Children who live with a dog are less likely to suffer allergies and illnesses like asthma. That's because dogs are filthy and their presence encourages the child's immune system to develop. And of course a dog is a friend to a child, a friend who will not judge, bully or be a bad influence on your child.

If I had a child and was considering taking a dog into my home, I'd be careful about the breed and temperment of the dog. I love rotties but I wouldn't bring such a powerful dog into a home where there's a child. Obviously it is responsible for a parent to be careful about animals that come into the house. But to not have a dog period because of children, this imo is an overreaction to what is thankfully a very rare event.

The modern world takes everything to its "logical" extremes. Poor dogs, I used to want a golden, now I'm tempted to just get a good looking mutt puppy.

My parents got an Akita puppy when i was 1. we grew up together. i ate her dogfood. etc. after a yera or so, huge fucking dog that could eat me at any time. didn't, though.

don't get me started with parents who should not have children altogether, though.

Had he bitten your face off, you wouldn't be here to tell your tale.
    You had unfit parents.

I don't think this is necessarily bad. I'd hope they know their dog well enough to know if it's capable of controlling itself. The worst video I saw was one some guy posted where he thinks it's a cute video of his kid picking on his Doberman and the Doberman's body language is so blatantly saying, "I wanna fuck this little shit up but I'm afraid of my owner." You know something would go wrong the second the kid was alone with the dog or maybe the dog would reach that point where it wouldn't care about what his owner wanted.
