Big Slick/Boat Dilemna

First post on the board so go easy on me.

I've only been playing for about 1.5 months now, but I throw myself into the readings researching and practice, so I play better than a month and a half of experience.

My hole cards are big slick offsuit. I raise 3x the BB preflop in late position. I get a couple callers and the flop comes up A K K. I check because I'm now in early position to see if anyone else has made a hand and I know that I have the nuts. It checks around and 4th street comes A. I check again and another player bets about 2 x the BB. Everyone else folds and I just call. The river is useless and I check again hoping to reraise a stab at the pot. The guy simply checks and I obviously win, but not as much as I wanted.

How can I get more money out of this hand? Just playing the nuts in general would be good advice. He figured that I had an A because of the preflop raise, which was good thinking.

When you have the nuts, or close to it in your case, I'll always give the free card but bet the turn. If no one makes anything, then that's my luck. If someone makes a good pair on the turn or maybe makes a set with his pocket pair, I'm happy. It's just too much of an obvious play to check to the river then checkraise a river bet with no prior action.

Also small and continuous bets will do you some good, if there's a flush or straight possibility when you flop a boat, give them great odds to draw for it. If they hit it, you'll have a nice little raise and re-raise fest on the river.

it's hard to get any money out in this situation. the only people that will call you are people with a K or an A. and since 2 are in your hand already, 4 on the board, there's only one K and one A left for others. so chances of them hitting anything are pretty much slim. i might of check raised the turn...but not too much of a raise...just enough to make him pot commited, but small enough that he will call it. if he raised 2x the BB on the turn, raise him 1 or 2 more BB.

You mean near nuts. This is one of those odd situations where it's impossible to hold the nuts and know. AK is beaten by AA. But AA is scared of KK (which is impossible cause you have a K) But once that 2nd A comes down on the turn you do have the nuts. But you will tie with any A.

How can I get more money out of this hand?

Bet, don't check.

If you want to slow play the flop that is fine. But if it is checked around you need to throw a bet out there on the turn. Depending on the table you can undersize your bet and hope to be called. Or you can oversize your bet and hope they feel you are bluffing. But regardless. Checking is what you do without a hand. Not with a hand.

I was the SB so I had good position preflop but bad position post flop. I was kind of trying to induce a bluff.

Humphrind, I'm kinda confused by your post. You say "Bet, Don't Check" then you say "Betting is what you do without a hand, not with a hand". Aren't those contradicting statements, and you shouldn't slowplay all the time, right? Just trying to clarify. Thanks

Don't try to induce a bluff from a player incapable of bluffing.
Don't slow play players that call too much.
Predictable slow play hurts your chances of bluffing on a board like this.

you will rarely get bluffed on a board like this, or get calls from person with K

everybody can see the board, they are not your hole cards...
