    Board [4c 8d 4s Th Td]

    Seat 6: michael1123 (button) showed [4h 4d] and won ($1746.50) with four of a
    kind, Fours
Seat 8: TheBusDriver (small blind) folded before Flop
Seat 9: JERRRY (big blind) folded on the Flop

On the flop and turn I know I'll likely get no action from Shani as he's very tight when calling big bets. On the river I don't feel he'll call any decent raise or bet unless he has a ten, which I doubt he could get away from no matter what I bet, since he'd be thinking at worst its a tie and at best I had a 4 or 88, as I think he figured I was slowplaying him on the flop.

It really may be one of the luckiest hand I've ever had, with him having to catch a running boat to pay me off at all. On the flop the odds of me getting a dime more than his original bluff were nearly non-existant, and I end up winning a big pot off of it.

    Cool follow-up hand.

    First a little backstory:
    CARDSON
    PokerStars Game #862990988: Hold'em No Limit ($5/$10) - 2004/11/16 - 03:47:17

Seat 8: TheBusDriver ($995 in chips)
    coltranedog: posts small blind $5
    SHANI: posts big blind $10
    *** HOLE CARDS ***
    Dealt to michael1123 [2d 8d]
    aceace72: folds
    michael1123: raises $20 to $30
    TheBusDriver: folds
    coltranedog: folds
    SHANI: folds
    michael1123 collected $25 from pot
    michael1123: shows [2d 8d] (high card Eight)
    *** SUMMARY ***
    Total pot $25 | Rake $0
Seat 1: coltranedog (small blind) folded before Flop
Seat 3: SHANI (big blind) folded before Flop
Seat 4: aceace72 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
    Seat 6: michael1123 collected ($25)
Seat 8: TheBusDriver (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet)

Typical type of thing I pull when I feel a table is getting a bit too tight (had 3 pocket pairs in 4 hands, one being KK and couldn't see a flop). Doesn't work on the rocks too much, but it really loosens up certain people to my bets. Anyway, this one guy takes exception, talking about it for many hands afterwards.

coltranedog said, "wow what a play"
coltranedog said, "are you a professional?"
    michael1123 said, "thank you"
coltranedog said, "that was just awesome"
    michael1123 said, "I know"
coltranedog said, "have you ever been on tv for poker?"
coltranedog said, "bc if not, you should be"
    michael1123 said, "I know"
coltranedog said, "that play was off the charts"
coltranedog said, "and you showed it!!!"
    coltranedog said, "wow"
michael1123 said, "ok, god, we get it, you're being sarcastic"
coltranedog said, "no i am serious"
    coltranedog said, "you have skills"
michael1123 said, "you've beaten it so dead"
coltranedog said, "i should probably quit"
coltranedog said, "you guys are pro's"

So he finally stops, and then this hand happens a while later, after I had gotten a pretty solid read on him (shoved all in on a flush draw on the turn when I had a set, which happened to hit, and then showed a bluff at a river on a very scary board - both of which showed he wasn't respecting my bets at all and was definitely willing to shove in on less than stellar hands against me).

    *** FLOP *** [Qd 2d 8c]
    JERRRY: checks
    coltranedog: checks

michael1123: bets $250 - kind of a testing the waters bet with a $460 pot before my bet, obviously planning to fold to a raise as AQ or a set can be out there

    denali: folds
    JERRRY: folds

(Long delay by coltranedog, and I feel that he's seriously in deep thought and not purposely delaying as I haven't seen him take this long before. My gut screams, while he's still thinking, that he has JJ and is about to shove in either because he doesn't believe I have the Q, thinks he can push me off of it, or most likely just can't let the high pocket pair go)

coltranedog: raises $361 to $611 and is all-in

    michael1123 said, "JJ?"

Seat 6: michael1123 showed [Ks Qs] and won ($1699) with two pair, Queens and
    Eights
Seat 7: denali folded on the Flop
Seat 8: TheBusDriver (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 9: JERRRY (small blind) folded on the Flop

    michael1123 said, "haha"
michael1123 said, "You're right, I do rule, thank you"

He says absolutely nothing after this.

The cool thing about this hand, besides owning the trash talking guy, is how it illistrates the power of position perfectly. If the preflop raiser is behind me, I probably wouldn't have lead at the pot and then been hard pressed to know if my KQ was better than his hand. Even if he lead rather weak, I probably couldn't have raised because the people behind me easily could've been slowplaying a set or AQ, and without raising I would've had a hard time getting a good enough read on him to call his likely all in on the turn. But because of being on the button and him being on the BB, after he checks I get to lead and make the pot heads up with a player that I then read to be dominated by my hand. The beauty of poker personified.

My god man you have the most amazing pots. I think you play the highest stakes by far outta everyone here. I dont even think I could play right at a NL 500 table I would be so damn nervous about losing it. 100 is where I top out at currently.

On the second hand, without a strong read I don't see how you can lay that down given the odds you're getting on your money...

$361 more to call to win $1699

True, Fnord. When I was considering what he had while he was thinking I wasn't really looking at his stack size compared to the pot, so the correct read didn't turn out to be all that helpful. But its still a hand I could get away from if I read it completely incorreclty and thought he was slowplaying a monster like a set that'd leave me basically drawing dead.

The thing is really, with my read, I would've called a lot more. I figured he probably had a hand like JJ before taking a look at the pot odds.

Was still fun to call out his hand, though.

Squirrel Nuts ... I mean Boondock ... I know I play at higher stake tables than most of the players on here, but I'd prefer that not be the focus of the hands I post. I'd prefer to discuss how the hands are played and the pots in relation to the blinds / stack sizes as opposed to the dollars. It makes me a bit uncomfortable to post hands of mine when the threads turn into discussions about the stakes instead of the play. And I've been playing this game for over 2 months, so its nothing that new to me.

It hasn't been just you of course, but I just wanted to get that out. No matter what the stakes, that first hand would still get me extremely excited. I think its one of the cooler hands that have been posted on here personally, but maybe I'm a bit biased.

    Thanks.

Sorry I won't do it again

No problem, man. I really didn't mean to direct it towards you, I just don't want all my hand history threads to be like that.

And Fishstick came up with a damn good name for you. I think that's sticking!

I guess I should take off the 'Muck Hand win/lose' button in case I want to show a bluff to spark the players at the table a bit...

I love doing it in ring games occasionally (sometimes like 3 hands in a row if a table is really really tight), but I don't risk it in SNGs or MTTs usually. There's just too much risk in it with big blinds, I think.

As you guys can probably see a bit from these histories, like with the 44 hand, the 100xBB stacks really favor post flop play. I'm often seeing something crazy like 40%-50% of the flops in these games, and often I'm coming in for a raise preflop and bluffing at the flop. If they call or raise my bluff at the flop I'm out 6xBB or whatever. But if they pick the wrong time to fight back I could win a 100xBB from them.

With MTTs and big blinds I think its more important to keep a rather tight image as its really profitable and typically preferable to just pickup the blinds.
