Playing QQ with K on board

I bet on the flop because they both checked. There was no re-raise, so I thought maybe neither of them had K? Then I started second guessing myself. I don't like betting big just to keep up the image that I have something good (and to see what they have) when the odds seem to be pretty good that I'm beaten. I feel like I lose a decent bit of money doing this. Ideas?

It just depends on the rest of the table...

I remember a hand I was playing last week where I was at a very loose .25/.50 NL table...I had queens and thought I'd push most everyone out of the pot or isolate someone with a 4 bucks raise...turns out I got 4 callers(with one of them all-in). Flop comes k/10/3, I'm first to act...so I figured what the heck, went all in for 10 bucks more, one guy folded, the last guy in the hand was shortstacked(about 2 bucks) and called...I ended up taking the pot.

Some books say that if you are playing with maniacs, ignore the top card on the table...the maniac likely doesn't have that pair.

In this particular case, the button likely has you beat...possibly trips or two pair...

You played it well, only preflop I think the 9x BB raise is excessive. It will get players with weaker hands to fold, and players with the K's and A's to call.

how is 9x BB excessive when its .01 and .02 poker? I understand what your coming from but hard to tell.


Mcpants; get reads on your players, the preflop was fine, the flop, either check it and see what the other player might do or bet it.

Get reads on the players then you should know what they play...

I'd bet more on the flop. Relative to the pot, .24 isn't that much. Even if they don't have the king you're giving them decent odds to stay in with whatever they do have. And you're also showing some weakness, which is fully realized on the turn when you check. No telling what they have at that point, because they know they can bet you out.

That's true corey. A lot of times folks will call enormous PFR's at these levels because it is such a small amount of money. But even still, QQ is vulnerable and you're better off putting in this size of a PFR holding AA or KK. In the micro's they will call you down with Ax anyway, even if they have a weak kicker. There's no sense in betting into calling stations when you're the dog. Sorry if this is weak, but again I'm talking about micro NL and the tendencies I've noticed.
