The third spade hit/board paired on the turn - what do you do?

These kind of questionable hands cost me the most right now

So lets see here, he called so maybe on draw or slow playing a set - either the draw hit, the set just turned into FH, or hes checkraising me with AQo im voting fold

A quick way to know whether or not he is bluffing is to reraise him.

Why the small turn bet? It's less of the pot than your flop bet, making it seem like you're iffy about the hand.

At the worst, I'd call here. Even if he has two spades, you still have many outs to make a better hand (6 spades + 2 5s + 2 As = 10 outs; 21% to hit on the river; $4 into a $22 pot fits that perfect). I'm not that concerned about the boat here, but it is a possibility.

I'd only be worried about it if this guy showed an affinity for pocket pairs earlier (many people don't know think about how well they can pay off at these stakes, meaning that frequently 88 would get folded). Similarly, I'd be interested in knowing how much he'd bluffed previously.

McPee's right that reraising will tell you for sure if he has a better hand now. Doesn't help you if you end up with callable odds again though, plus if you get the 6 out flush you end up wondering which better hand he had.

In the end, reads are important on this hand for me. Does he like suited cards to a raise? Does he like pairs to a raise? I'd only fold here if he'd previously shown an affinity toward pocket pairs and specifically not toward suited connectors and didn't bluff a lot.

Yea my turn bet was pretty weak. I had no reads on the guy at all. I just folded because heres how these hands usually go if I dont get out early

    1. Reraise to $16, villain cold calls, river comes blank Im first to act with a huge pot so I can either check, bet way more than my hand is worth, or bet small into a bigass pot. I hate every move here.

    2. Call his raise, check or bet on the river, pretty much same as above.

So...I got out early and decided to wait until a better time to get that money in the middle.

Along these lines, is it better to check the river after calling here, or to bet out with a blocking bet? (And since I'm clueless...what would be a good blocking bet in this situation?) What happens if the 4th flush card comes? Same game plan?

    You can't block him here.
