I think the problem with this hand was that you only bet a quarter of the pot on the flop with top pair. He could be calling with almost anything there. The turn bet may have also been too small and he may think you're on a weaker pair and not too comfortable with it. If you fold now he has you outstacked about 3-1 so its mainly a question of if you think you stand a better chance beating him in this position or if your pair is still good.
