A math problem:

    Default A math problem:

    3 men are travelling, and find a hotel to spend the night.
    They are told it will be $30 for the three of them to share a room.
    They each pay $10, and go to their room.
    Later, the Hotel Manager realizes that he had overcharged them, and a room is only $25.
    He gives the bell boy $5 to return to the 3 men.
    The bell boy realizes that the men can not split $5 evenly so he decides to keep $2 for himself and give each of the men $1.

    So now, each man paid $9 for a total of $27, and the bell boy kept $2, for a total of $29.

    Where did the last dollar go?
    To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

    Well if a room is $25, 25/3 =$8.333

    So the kid gives each one back a dollar from their $10
    $8.333 + $1 = $9.333

    So their money back plus what the kid took
    $9.333 * 3 + $2 = $30
    pulling a courtiebee pŏŏl-ĭng ā kôrt-ē-bē (verb phrase):
    1. overvaluing mid pocket pairs
    2. knowing you should fold, but donkishly calling or raising anyway

    $25 (in the register) plus $2 (in bellboy's pocket) = $27 (paid by the 3 men)

    im still confused out of my mind....screw the 8.333 you dont give back 8.333 you give back whole numbers...lets see they all pay 10 to equal 30...guy takes 5 out...gives each one 1 and keeps 2... ahhhh the misdirection is when you say they all payed 9...when in theory they didnt... because they shoulda got more then $1 back...wooo! i figured it out.

    -10 + 1 * 3 = 27 however this isnt the true equation for what they payed... this is after the fucking bell hopper bitch SCREWED THEM!!!

    ALL MATH HAS BROKEN DOWN! I will turn this in instead of my completed Diff Eq test and tell my teacher that all math in the universe is wrong.

    Differential Equations was the most ridiculous math class i've ever taken. LaPlace Transforms!? Wtf, come on...Applications prz? thx ^.^

    Are you a 5th grade math teacher? 5th grade is when I first heard this problem. $25 in register + $2 in bellboys pocket = $27

    yes it easy but when you read the

    it throws you off, thats the whole point im pretty sure of this problem.

    I just re-read my post and realized that I sounded like a complete ass. Even worse was the fact that I didn't even realize I copied someone else's response. Didn't mean to - sorry. I honestly heard this problem when I was in fifth grade - it was extra credit at the end of some test. I got a Snickers for answering it correctly.

    Although the math might be easy - it still screws with all the logic that you have. That's why I love problems like these. It's very similar to the Let's Make a Deal 3 doors problem where logically it makes sense that whether or not you change your door makes no difference, but really you have a 2/3 shot by changing and only 1/3 by keeping your original choice.

    You had a really bad DiffEq prof if you don't know the applications of that stuff. As for mine, he was fixated on motion in a dampening field. Specifically, a field of peanut butter. Mmm, peanut butter.

    If you feel I have insulted your intelligence try this one:

    If you have 5000gallons of water(closed system) in an ammonia equilibrium with a pH of 10 and 20ppm H2 as an Oxygen scavenger,
