    Default Massive loss :(

Ive been playing $25 / NL for a while now.. Rarely lose normally I go in with $25 leave with $50-100. (Some times lose the $25 but not often)

I joined with $100, got my 20% bonus so thats $120 plus my winnings I was right at $290.

After going to $50/nl 2 days later (today) i have lost almost $200!!!

    Its totally different!? Why?

And I had KK Someone raised $2.. I re raised to $4.. and this stupid guy with 10 7 called, so there are 3 ppl in the pot....

one guy has AQ, other has 10 7.... Flop is 10 8 2....

Guy with 10 7 goes ALL IN for $48... so of course I call.. he gets lucky and draws $7 on the river.........

Was I wrong for calling him? I had been watching and I knwe he was a bluffer, and I knew he did not have KK beat....

$50 NL players suck. You're probably just getting unlucky.

I think this shows the importance of being properly bankrolled...
I take it you moved up to 50NL with around $300 in your BR and you were buying in at $50 each time?

Generally there's not that much a difference between 25NL and 50NL but maybe you need to tighten up a little? Were all four buyins lost with bad beats? The hand you listed you played well, but the bad beat would have meant a lot less if you were properly bankrolled.

    GL winning your money back!

I dont know, I definately loosened up more than I should have.

In 25 nl games people raise $1 with good hands pre flop.. it seems in 50 they raise $3-7!!! Higher than 2:1 ratio!

Anyways I looked at my statistics and before my stats were about 20% wins, 40% flops and 40% won if flop seen .. and I think 75% won at show down

After the last couple days (reset before starting 50) I was at about 12% wins, 40% flops and 25% won if flop seen.. and I think 75% won at show down still.

I think basically what was happening is I was getting pushed out of hands because people bid SO MUCH MORE!

In 25nl they bid maybe 0.50 cent to 2 dollars to try to bluff you out or whent hey have good hands.

In 50nl they bid maybe $2 minimum normally $5 and some times more.. up to $10-15 when they get good hands

So i was not able to see as many flops.

I win a lot of hands in 25 with flushs or straights because people only raise $0.25 - $2.00 making it cheap to see the flops.

    Anyway I go SUPER LUCKY!

    I was down to $50...

I joined a table 1st hand some guy was on tilt with $125 (25nl table) and I raised $2 with AQ suited he raised to $5 pre flop I called, floped a QK he had Q10 !!! he whent all in... I figured he was on tilt so I whent ahead and called with QA (was scared of K..) but anyway so I doubled up.. $50..

Then I got AJ off suit! I raise $2 He reraises up to $5 i call again.. I flop an ace so he goes all in again! now im at $50 x2 = $100, then i get QQ on 3rd hand and he does exact same thing I bet $2 (to try to not be obvious) he raises $5... (so obvious) KA flops... im screwed.. but he checks.. i guess he is scared now? so I check he checks again... River flops Q!!!!!!.....

He goes all in on river and in 3 hands i took him for his FULL $125!!!!!

(oh and just to tip things off I got J9 spades, and whent ahead and raised $2 pre flop just to keep things going...
2 people called I hit flush and won about $15...

AMAZING! (I had two streaks like this tonight, my other one only paid about $50 (from $25 to $70) but I got QQ... then AA, then KK all 3 in a row!! (lost abotu $10-20 and quit that table.

    WoW tonight was awsome!!

I am back up from a little below $50 to about $200 ish now!

yeah, you gotta be properly bankrolled before moving up or the game can get very cruel. I got lucky enough to win a big tournament so I could move from the lower limits to where I play now which at the 400nl still isnt all that high but to be honest for the most part the poker is pretty much the same. There are still terrible players and terrible calls and miracle cards, but when you have a proper bankroll behind you those things just roll off your back. You just gotta be careful when you take your shots and always leave yourself enough to fall back and rebuild if you hit a losing streak while in that bigger game. SD can get the best of us at times, I'm not the most solid of players to be sure but I have 150K hands logged at the 400 game now and make 2.04 bb/100 with a SD of 35bb/100 so if you have numbers like mine and a 5 or 6 hour down session can easily translate into 1 or 2 full buyin downswings.

Yea I understand! Man I wish I knew what I know now when I started!

my first week I won a small $5+1 tourney that got me into a $100+10 tourny....

I placed 12th my 1st week playing. (10th-20th got money)

I got $104 which was really nice for me (I lost it all and had to rebuy) but I learned a LOT with that free $104!!

If I had not placed 12th in that tourny I probbaly would not be playing now because of the amount I lost up front which was only about $250 or so but still that was a lot for me.

I am very consistant with my 25nl game. I can play 2tables at a time, and MAYBE 3.... not sure. I had some stiff competition at my 3rd table and ended up losing $10 to a bad beat. But i think if that had not happened I would of been winning on all 3 tables.

Anyway what point should I move up?

Do I need to hit 50 again or can I build up and skip 50 and go to $100 - 400 nl ?

Also I just started playing these sng tournaments!! They are really nice but I lost all 4 I played!

$6 for 3 and $11 for the other. I am use to the 100+ people tournaments not 1-2 table tournaments. Just amatter of practice I guess.

    So basically to summarize:

    1) Should I stick with playing tables or should I start investing a little into these SnG tournaments??

    2) What should my bankroll be before I move up?

    3) Is party poker better than empire? I know they are basically the same but they look a lot different. Does either have easier money?

    1) Depends who you talk to. Go with what you feel you enjoy most and can be most successful at. You can't play tournaments with a cash game strategy.

    2) Read the bankroll management post.

    3) Party and Empire are the same site with different colours.

Probably varience. Do a forum search for information on this, it's completely common and needs to be expected - also a key part of your bankroll management as it must be able to handle the swings.

When you have a big hand, you don't want any marginal hand to come along for a cheap flop and outdraw you, correct? Opps don't want you to see flops with your 57s, of course they're going to bet. It looks like you are playing too many flops with the hope of hitting a flush or straight, and this will leak money.

You need at least $325 (more like $375) to play 25NL and $650 (more like $750) to play 50NL

As for the KK hand...well there are quite a few maniacs at 50NL, you'll learn to sort through them.

That's interesting.. If you play 10K hands, you'll win 204BB with a SD of 350BB... That's a 40% or so chance of losing over 10K hands! Seems really high to me. Anyone else got some numbers?

290 to 200 at 50NL.. easily be an unlucky swing..
120 to 300 at 25NL.. Could also be a swing..

You need to play more poker, dont move up just because you have enough money (which you dont). Move up because you are very confident that you are playing well enough and have enough money

the first thing you said was "i've been playing 25NL for awhile now" Not long enough to judge your playing standard. Play more before moving to a higher level.

And i see you joined only a couple of days ago.. welcome to the boards.
