This is a fold, I think. But is it because of the turn check? If the pot was bigger from a turn bet, do you check-call here?

I like it so far. I might call that river, depends on my opponent.

if hes dumb enough to call a preflop reraise and the flop bet with jack shit ace high then pay him. But, id reckon whateva he had was made a pp prehaps with the mini raise so id definatly make the river call.
I dont think KQ for the straight is applicable here, but again if he calls preflop reraises with that then id pay him off and add him to my buddy list.

It's funny you guys both said to make the call.

I made it, against my will. It's a call I never used to make, but I thought was probably profitable.

It wasn't this time, villian shows TT.

i think id pay him for his lucky river, i wonder if hed pushed how you'd play it?
I think if you bet the turn regardless you may push him off the pot but id play it pretty similar to you anyway and pay his river catch.

After he checks the turn I would have bet it. Not sure if that would change the outcome and he may be going for a check raise but only one way to find out.

I was gonna say...bet the turn. If he has the Ace, he'll let you know most likely. If he doesn't then he may think you do and let it go. There's two overs and not many people will chase trips all the way to the river with two overs. Not that you knew he had TT but that's how I usually play that situation. People love to see that turn card, but when it doesn't work out, they are fairly willing to let it go there.

Yeah. In retrospect, a turn bet would have probably won the pot, and made an easy fold if he check-raised or bet into me on the river.

So I'm still only losing about $10 (if that's what I had bet), but with a chance to win the pot.

However, my thinking on the turn was that I didn't like a flop call, I didn't like the turn card, and I didn't want to play in a big pot on the river.

I don't know. I HATE KK after an ace comes out.

    Not with you.

Nah, I'm a losing limit player. Haven't played a ton of hands, but you've seen some HH in the limit forum.

Anyway, I'd pay off an ace there in limit. I'd certainly still make a bet. But this is a far different hand at a limit table.

An Ace always comes out. If it comes out on the flop, then you have to bet. If they call, still bet on the turn because if they have a pocket pair they want to see the turn in hopes of trips - implied odds or something like that. When they miss, they lay it down to your turn bet. If they call or reraise, then they have the Ace. 1/2 pot on the turn usually does it because if they don't have it, they think you are only betting half to entice them to call. If they do have it, you won't lose too much.

At least this is how I usually go about it.
