No read no risk. Don't stick your neck out in the wind of mystery. I have to keep saying the following, though I don't mind. If he's bluffing, then it's profitable to fold without a read because he'll make another mistake in the future just as large when you hold the nut flush.

You should NEVER try to pick off a large bluff from an unfamiliar player without the nuts.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

Just joined a table last night and got JJ. The flop was TT2 and it was checked to me. I check. Same thing on the turn with another blank. I bet. Some guy goes way over the top. I was 80% sure he was bluffing but had zero read on him so I just let it go. Not like I had the nuts, but I just knew. Two orbit later I was 100% sure he bluffed because he kept doing it and got caught with a pair of 7s on a board with coordinated overs. I double up off him later when he pulled the same carp against my rockets. If they do it once against you, they figure they can do it again, so it's better to wait for your read.

Something a bit unrelated but where I play 10nl a 4xbb gets no respect if you want to isolate you may need to go 6xbb.

Other than that nice fold, hard to let it go but w/o a read you sorta have to.

Easy turn check without a read.

I would only bet this into predictable opponents.

    Umm... whatever...

There is a MUCH more important Big Bet concept at work here.

Let me refer to the other part of Fnord's post while we await the explanation:

I have a feeling there's an important lesson here. Why is that Fnord? I understand the risk that the HH is vividly demonstrating, but isn't a check-check on the turn just an invitation to bluff me on the river here?

    Is this a problem?

With three to a flush on the board I would think it is. Isn't it?

7.40$ to win 20.15$. You have to win >37% of the times. I don't think you will in this spot.

The turn fold is not in dispute. I think the turn bet into an unknown/unpredicable/aggro/tricky/etc. player is bad.
