I come from Victoria, BC. Pot is treated about the same as alcohol there among most people and I agree with that. Hell, it's more accepted in some situations: most cops won't care if you're smoking weed, even while driving. I've been through at least 15 roadblocks after just smoking weed in the car, and all they ever ask is if I've been drinking. One cop even looked envious of me one time, it was great.
Another time, me and some friends were smoking weed in our car at the end of this quiet street in a forest-y residential area when a cop pulled up and knocked on the window. My friend rolled down the window and smoke poured out in the cop's face, whereupon he told us that it would be best if we just moved along. So, we drove around 2 minutes away to another such road and were smoking outside of our car (I think the moon was tripping us out) when the same cop rolls up behind us. Again, no mention of the pot... in fact, he asks us if we had witnessed any suspicious activity in the past half hour because there had been a break-in. I heart Victoria.
I feel that pot is superior to booze in so many ways both personally and for society at large. How many stoned frat boys pick fights? How many people have been killed by stoned drivers (that aren't also drunk, be careful of the stats being quoted incorrectly)?
My only problems with it are personal and those consist of my lungs kinda hurting after years of smoking it (occasionally I smoke cigarettes) and the amotivational factor.
