After the turn I thought about check-folding but a set didn't make sense to me.. Was the bet/call at the river +EV? No read; 2nd orbit or so at the table.

He'd played it like a draw the entire time, yet no draw has seemed to hit on the river. My guess is that he has AA, or he flopped a set. Your opp has played this hand horribly. If he had a J on the flop you'd really think he'd reraise it. His line doesn't make sense to me but your beat 9 times out of 10 here so fold the river I think.

Also, there's two jacks of clubs?

My only guess is that the villain poorly played his tptk against the preflop aggressor thinking you were overplaying AK.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

Tough call at the end. If I was the villian, I'd probably play JJ or 88 the same way against an aggressive raiser.

Without a read, I woulda slowed down on the river, or, if that was my blocking bet that got re-raised, then I fold. You are only beating TP or a bluff. Possible hands that he has that beat you:
    JJ, probable
TT, unlikely given the flop call, but I've seen it played worse
    88, probable
    22, nice pre-flop call
    44, not a chance
    AA, KK, highly doubtful
Q9, 97, only a supreme donk would show this...
JT, This is another possible holding that might play this way

    Hands that you beat:
AJ, KJ, slightly possible, but why wait until the river to raise??
QJ, unlikely, given your hand, and you beat it anyways, so you're not worried about this
RAGS, Possible he just waited to try and bluff you out of the pot at the river. I doubt it though.

With this relatively un-scary board, I would say that your call was on the whole -EV. Results suck.

Just realized the results were there...

I still fold that without a read.

the guy slowplayed it okay. I mean, if I were him I would've raised the flop 3x to try to rep a J, that way you'd have to call. but with a complete rainbow he played it a little greedy but I'd love to see his face if a 9 hit on the river.

I bloody HATE situations like this, where you have a high pair and opp just keeps on flat calling. You dont want to give a free card, but on the same line you don't want to just feed him your chips.

    Me hatey.

I play it the same and lose just like you. Opponent played so passive it’s hard to know what he holds. The only better line may be checking the river but it’s hard to do that when you can’t put him on anything. After the raise I don’t put him on Q9. JT could play this way I suppose but then so could AJ. AJ is the most likely holding so I call.
