Criticize my heads-up play

[mcatdog]

This is the heads-up portion of a $10+1 2-table SNG on PokerRoom. I've been playing a lot of these lately because the players seem worse than the ones at the single-table tournaments.

Reads on my opponent: he is somewhat of a calling station, but he'll fold if you put significant pressure on him. He was the chip leader with nine players left, but he wasted his stack by limping preflop, like 15 times in a row. A lot of the times he limped, I raised him and he folded either preflop, or to a continuation bet on the flop. So he probably thinks I bluff a lot.

I included the last hand before heads-up just because it's one of the funnier hands I've seen.

I didn't read them all but
1) You almost never want to give your SB without a fight. You should call sometimes and raise sometimes, but only fold if he comes over the top every time you call.

In reverse order:
59: Push the flop. You have a pair, and are outstacked 2:1, you have to make a move.

55: Bet the turn when your T hits. He probably would have raised your flop bet with a K.

45: Horrible. What makes you think he has an A? Even a Q>? Top pair is a monster heads up, you should double up or lose all your chips here.

42: Fine

40: I probably fold 45 to a raise pre-flop.

39: OK, with 33 you might want to push pre flop. 85% of the time the flop is going to be all overcards, so give him a chance to fold his junk preflop. Otherwise, you played it OK.

15 Fine, what can you do? Lucky he didn't raise you small for value.

14 I probably don't bluff the river here, although if he folds you don't have to show that you're betting at a flop with 42.

10 Nice move, but dangerous.

8 He played that bizzare, but I probably don't call that flop bet with pure junk.

In general, I think you want to raise more preflop - even with junk. You almost always raised your good hands and checked (or folded) your bad ones. Only exceptions were a couple of medocre hands like J8 K2. Mix it up and call with good hands/raise with bad ones someitimes.

you can't fold your SB that often, and you have to raise the junk... don't just fold ur junk, call ur qx and kx and raise ur ax or better and telegraph your hand!

he hasn't shown that he's gonna punish u for limping ur sb. to the contrary he often checked the times u did limp. and u have position in the sb so don't just give it up. ur also getting 3:1 odds and even 72 beats AK more than that... if u have to sometimes limp and then fold to a big raise, so be it: you can then mix things up by limping with a big hand and punishing him later

as general advice you should give ur opponent as many opportunities to fold as possible by making bets. u'd be surprised how little u have to bet to win many pots. u should think about changing gears. if you notice ur opponent is folding a lot when u raise, then raise more - when he starts reraising u and calling a lot, be selective. Be creative and don't be scared

Something that really helps me when i play heads up is to look at my hands and realise that: on the whole, my opponent is getting equally shite cards

I wouldnt beat myself up about that HH too much. If he hadn't rivered a 3 on hand 56 you'd have won. Some of the early play is too passive, but you get it all in with the best of it and the cards fall for him.

Try not to let opp see a flop for free. Ever.

In heads up there is a metaphorical "Boot". For most of that game he had the boot and was repeatedly kicking you in the arse. You need to take that boot and be the kicker, not the kickee. (or just foldfoldfoldfoldfold BANG foldfoldfoldfold BANG... but you need to get the cards to bang with)
