Default Raising to buy a free card ?

Tried this play a few times this weekend and it worked out pretty well.

Think I used it in LIMIT play back when. Do any of you use it and is it +EV over the long run.

In position with connectors or 1 gappers. No raises preflop.

Flop gives you a strong draw. One better.

I have been re-raising here. Turn brings a check by initial better. Now I can check to see the river getting 2 cards for the cost of a raise.

If I hit my draw on the turn I can bet it out if its something like a low flush or check with a monster to re-raise the probable river bet by opp.

This worked especially well with guys just min betting or only 1/2 pot betting the flop.

If I get action back on my raise I can dump it cheap but with these min betters I usually don't.

Should I keep using this play or dump it.
Why is it a penny for your thoughts but
you have to put your 2 cents in??

    Somebody's making a penny!!

    I like this play.

When I have a strong draw, I'll bet as if I have an overpair or TPTK. This way, I'll either hit my draw (40% of the time lets just say), or I can bet the guy out lets say 50% of the remaining 60%. Therefore I win 70% of the time when I have a draw

i like the play its an effective way to mix up your opponents if your pepared to imp bigger hands on occasion and play them like this.
My only problem is that too many players now recognise this play and dump their stack in the pot, effectivly putting you all in on 30/40 shot. Not great odds imo but i stil think you should use the play, just ont make it your standard draw play imo

Make sure you don't minraise for a free card. It screams draw. If I see someone do that behind me I make it 3-5x the initial bet depending on the pot and my stack. I bet $4, you min raise to $8, I make it $15 to go. If you have a set you'll think I'm strong enough to call a push and will likely push yourself. If you're drawing I just charged you an arm and a leg. What I do is I consider fold equity into the equation, not just that I want a free card. If I have JT spades, and the flop comes out Q K 3 rainbow, I'm not going over the top of a heavy bet in a raised pot, because it could be QQ KK AK or KQ I'm up against, and I have no pair outs. It depends on the situation, and who you're involved with. I do this to passive players constantly regardless of what they may be holding, because quite often you'll see a guy who flopped KKK and when you raise him he calls and checks to you on the turn thinking he's some kind of smart trapper.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?

Raising to get a free card is a pretty standard play. I'll often times fire out on the turn to take it down, and if not then I have plenty of outs.

Raising with draw is good against nits, who will fold pocket underpair if you rep the flop properly (raising the flop is just it - representing it) and CALL with their monster set (not reraise) , then check the turn hoping they will face a big bet from you.

Then if the draw hits, they "value bet" their strong hand, you go over the top of them and they just can't lay down that set/top two/etc.

Probably that's why s00ted connectors are good IN POSITION ?
