    Default Just wondering....

When it has been raised to you 4x BB and you have a low pair, how many of you folded only to find out you hit your set on the flop. I get a sick feeling after that.

This might seem loose but I _never_ fold a pocket pair to a 4x bb raise unless the raise will get me headsup against a short stack. Otherwise I believe I have implied to call.

I folded a pocket pair once
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?

This happens more often in MTT's/SNG's but it really shouldn't bother you. If you made a correct fold preflop, it was still a correct fold if you would have spiked your card anyway. The alternative is to never fold a PP preflop and donate money away... (note I'm talking about when it's actually correct to fold them.. ie folding 33 to a PFR in an MTT when you have an M of 8 or something like that).

If you are only statistically supposed to hit your set 1 in every 8 times, missing one set will most likely save you chips than if you stay in every time you get a pair.

After around your 100,000th to 250,000th hand, you hardly notice. Sometimes I chuckle, but it's usually because I'm not playing many tables or shutting down for the night.

I never get a sick feeling seeing my set come out on the flop. That's because if I'm not in the hand, I had a great reason to fold. Either my implied odds sucked (in which case who cares if you hit your set?), or there was way too much preflop representation, and I would feel like a fish hitting a set after calling off 25-25% of my stack. Really I would. I would feel terrible. I think it's safe to say I would feel sick. I just can't accept feeling sick whether I'm in or out when my preflop pair sets the flop. I'll feel sick if I'm in when I shouldn't be. Kinda like I'm developing a leak that needs medicine.

Come to think of it, I probably have a slight leak seeing more flops than I should with pocket pairs. I don't give a shit. I have a pokergasm everytime I hit a set so too bad.

if you both have big stacks you could probably call that and have +EV

I'd put that range significantly lower, but I agree with the rest of the post...

This post answers the original post perfectly.
