New member, need some advice

Hello everyone, been reading over the forums for a few weeks now and finally found a question that I felt I needed to ask. Let me explain my situation before I jump in.

I started playing about two years ago but only started taking the game seriously back in July. I've read over a dozen books on poker thus far (many of which are on the FTR reading list) and I've made a point to study them like text books. After gathering a couple hundred pages worth of hand written notes and doing well in the play money games, I started a small bankroll back in late October and got to work on the NL ring game tables at PP.

So, I've managed to make a 70% return on my investment playing one table at a time for maybe 10 hrs a week. To me this seems like a good return. I consistently leave with a profit and I've learned how to control my emotions pretty well. Anyway, I feel like I need to be moving along a little faster, so I've been considering playing multiple tables. I tried this this weekend, and it went well, but I didn't play for long enough to really get an idea of how stable my ability was spread between two rooms. I know allot of people here play half a dozen rooms or more, so I figured I would ask for your input.

At my current limit, I could play 3 tables at once and only be playing with 10% of my total bankroll. So is there any reason I should scratch this idea? Any other aproaches or tips to offer.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I hope you have read the bankroll management thread!
For me i dont mind 3 tabling for 10% my br, i think its fine. Although, if you lose 2 stacks i guess you have to call it a day. Probably, you only want to be 2 tabling and never having more than 5% o your bankroll on the table at any one time. But, there will be others who wont think it too bad that you 3 table for 10%.
I dont see why its to bad, althoughi think id be trying to move up if i have the bankroll rather than trying to multi table.

if you are comfortable with 1 table try and add another.

2 table for a while until you are totally comfortable with it before you try 3 tabling etc.


Dont ever ever ever try and play 4 tables when you arent quite comfortable enough to 3 table or anything like that. Multitabling is something that must be built up to.

You will get the hang of it over time. I usually 2 table, and occasionally 3 table no limit. I tried to 4 table Limit a few weeks ago and i just wasnt ready for it. I wasnt comfortable enough with my limit game to make those quick, almost subconcious descisions and i lost real fast. Ive tried 2 tabling limit since then and it goes fine. You will get the hang of it pretty fast. Just dont try and run before you can walk .
I dont think its a problem playing lots of tables at once from a BR perspective as long as you arent prone to tilting. If you are playing 8 tables instead of 1 then tilt will hit you 8 times as fast. Otherwise, the natural varience is down to the number of hands you play, not the number you play at one time.

Here's my reply for what it's worth. I'm a $2NL specialist.

I've got over 13,000 recorded hands in at that limit, so I think I have a bit of a platform from which to speak out about multi-tabling, at least, at this super-low limit.

If you have a consistent strategy, especially for starting hands, then it is quite OK to play at least three tables. I am no genius, but triple-tabling is really comfortable for me. You MUST play the same limits and type of poker on all three, though.

I have been a reckless fool previously, and used to multi-table with different games and limits. That is fiscal suicide.

Indeed, as already stated, build up to it. But if you're a tight player, then multi-tabling is a really great way to fend off the boredom of waiting for a decent starting hand.

Thanks for all the info peeps. I've been weary about playing multiple tables up till now only because the major author's I've read books by have slandered it, but I'm going to give it a try. I'll start with two tables and move up from there.
