    Default Dell Inspiron 6000

So is everyone who bought this laptop still happy with it? I'm thinking about buying one and was wondering if there is anything I should know about it.

I only need this computer to play poker during my 12 hours of break per week at school in between classes ... since it's not a desktop replacement, I'm wondering if there are any significantly better choices, especially since this one is a little on the heavy side.

I'm on a fairly tight budget, probably can't spend much more than $1300 Can, so ~$1100 US (unless I spend my bankroll! )

I've read every single laptop thread available on the boards here, any new thoughts are much appreciated.

I own a 6000 w/ 1GB RAM, 80GB drive, and 128MB video card which allows a 1920x1200 res screen. That's 4 PokerStars tables w/ no overlap. That is, if things like that are important to you.

I use it for everything and have no complaints, except the fan is a little loud.

I am happy with it, bought it with 15.4 wuxga. same here, the fan gets a bit too noisy sometimes but otherwise no complaints.

i have it too, very happy with it. the only time the fan is loud imo is when you set the little air vent thing on the bottom down on a surface that clogs it (onto a bed, if you press it hard onto your leg, etc). i got 512 ram, pentium m 1.6ghz, 64mb radeon (can't fit that much on the screen without overlap i admit, 1200x800 max, but no overlap isn't important to me.), and the nylon carry case all for 1k even, and have no problems. it might be a little heavy/bulky for a girl to carry around all the time but its not so bad.

make sure you check both dell regular and dell small business for the best price on what you want, you can use either just make up your small business you could put ftr assmaster they don't care. And also, there are sometimes better coupons you can find listed on google. twice a year they have a like 750 off 1500 coupon ( and more as the prices scale up). apparently they sell out their 10000 uses in like 20 minutes, frustrating to get on an hour after it started and they're out. but those special ones are rare.

    courtie,

I have 2 Inspiron 6000's and I think they're great laptops, I have no complaints and think they're a killer deal. And I did search for some Dell coupons when I made my purchases and got better deals.

    Nice avatar, btw.

I'm not sure. I can't stop looking at your avatar. It's... beautiful.

    ...honestly though.

I wouldn't wish a Dell PC on my worst enemy, but their laptops are very nice indeed. In fact, I'd argue that they're the cream of the crop at the moment. A friend of mine has Dell Inspiron 9300, which is a step up from the 6000. It works fine on Poker Room and Hollywood, and will play some pretty demanding FPS games.

One word of advice - stay away from HP - which tend to run warm and be a little noisy. They may have fixed this with their latest generation of laptops, but it's something to investigate anyways.
