opponent here is 48/6 and semi aggressive postflop. I have no idea how to handle this. I put out a bet that I didn't think somebody would play with unless they had a Jack. Is this a good line of thinking?

Another noob question, not only what do those stats mean, i get the impression that there is a program out there that keeps stats on the other players on a table. What is this program, and how do I acquire it?

Ive really enjoyed the forum, and have learned much, although I don't post much.

Poker Tracker (www.pokertracker.com). I think by 48/6 he means button has played 6 hands out of 48...

nope.... 48/6 means his VP$P (voluntarily put $ in pot) is 48% and he raises 6% of his hands preflop

post-flop play possibilities:

#1. he has ak (possibly drawing to the nut flush

#2. he has a middle pp he tried to limp in & then called your raise to hit his set. this technically can mean that he's holding 55 & you're drawing to a 2-outer vs a made boat... but the possibility is as slender as the guy holding the dead nuts w/ jj.

given preflop play (limp/call) i'd isolate him to option #3. he probably has you on ak & thinks his made hand is ahead of yours but doesn't want to commit too much of his stack & only minraises... i'd probably put him on something in the 77-tt range & cold call to extract more value on the turn.

either way, i can't put a minraise here on a jack. i think you're way ahead here.

If their Laggy I'd say there was more chance of a lower pair or a flush draw. I think I call and lead any non spade turn.

Sheez - VPIP of 48%? Doesn't that stat mean specifically "Voluntarily put in pot preflop"? I thought it was basically an indicator of how many hands they play...with that high a range he could easily have Jxs, AJ/KJ/QJ.
And of course the Axs flush draw has already been mentioned.

Obviously you push if you think he's on the draw and fold otherwise. For some reason in this case I think he's got the jack...

Dahorror, if he plays half his hands there are an enormous number he might play that DON'T contain jacks! A loose player like this would probably prefer 64 to 6J. I suspect, however, I'd have to re-raise here - then *I'd* be the one repping jacks (and almost certainly AJ considering the PFR) and unless he has made quads, he's got to think he's behind.

I don't disagree that the guy could have anything...but 64o does not play like this very often in this spot. If you wanna bluff with 64o you assume that Hero does not have the jack and you bluff hard.

Minraising I see is for draws, made hands that want you to stick around, and probing.

The bigger problem here is that the pot is now $58, and will be $72 if Hero simply calls the reraise (not advisable). Hero will have $77 left at that point.

But if hero even minreraises (won't chase off the flush draw, might get smooth called by the jack - should chase off mid pockets or Ace hi, might chase off a bluff since you will be putting the rest in on the turn) -- now the pot is $142 and hero has $35 left. He's pot committed by then - so there's really no reraise possible here that doesn't pot commit the hero - he has to push or fold.

Woops - my calculations aren't right...off by about $24 on the pot and $14 on the hero's remaining cash.
So $128 pot with $49 left if you were to just min-raise (another $28 back to the original minraiser). The end result is about the same tho.

I do find it odd that the J would minraise here knowing fairly well that you don't have a J...I certainly wouldn't play it that way.
