Default Push or Call the River?

Here's a situation that I run into occasionally that confuses me. I was playing 100NL 6 max today, 100 BB stacks. UTG limps, player who has been pretty quiet limps, button limps, SB folds, I'm in BB with 55 and check. Flop comes Q52 rainbow, I bet $4, quiet player calls, everyone else folds. Turn comes a 7, completing the rainbow. I bet $8, quiet player calls again, river pairs the board with a 7. I bet $15, quiet player raises to $40. I should just push this right?

Yeah. Rare that he'll have higher trips. I don't see him calling $4 in this pot with a 7. My bet is a slowplayed 22, AA, KK, or AQ, with QQ of course being a possibility, and if you're very aggressive or he's on tilt, I can see him doing this with JJ. Anyway, from the way you played the hand I don't think he put you on a set.

I just can't put him on trip 7s here. Maybe AQ, would have to look at his PFR. 22 looks likely. Maybe QQ if he never raises pre-flop.

No way you fold. I think there is value in a push.

    Why not?

    Bob-

Tough decision on the river. My first thought was to just call, but considering 22 is definately in villain's range and likely calls a push, I'm kinda torn. Is villain calling with a worse hand here then 22? If you think the answer is no, I think you should just call. Against a donk, I'd push. Better reads would help, but you've already shown tremendous strength in this hand, and villain just doesn't seem to care...

Yeah it worried me because he had been playing really tight up to this point and now suddenly he was showing extreme strength. My default play is to push this but I just called and he rolled over 22 and I was upset that I missed out on his stack.
