    Default Musicians sound off

I m'self play piano/keyboard okayly, and write tunes now and then.

BTW there's a reason for this; it's to do with a new project I've got in which I could input from as many musicians as I can find.

Started playing drums in 8th grade so its been... 6 years. Guitar started in about 9th, so 5 years.

Became a 'percussionist' (as in, less drumset, more percussion) starting at about 11th grade. Now do a lot of recording. Working on a CD, somewhat akin to Godsmack's 'The Other Side' -- shit that would sound awesome loud and distorted but played with acoustic guitars and a lot lot lot of percussion.

    Itll be sexy.

Improv jazz with alto sax in high school = SOOOO fun. I played French horn in an orchestra for a few years before I become poor and had to start working instead of practising I wanna get back into playing this September, really excited.

That's very cool. So many people seem to drop the instrument they played and enjoyed in HS and never do it again- glad to hear you are picking it up again! So what will you go back to, the horn or alto?

Sometimes I still miss playing tenor sax. You should pick up alto again and enjoy it.

I loved playing so much, I was THAT close to going for a music degree at UBC instead of the shitty science crap I'm studying now. In hindsight, I really regret letting it go and not pursuing music instead. I'm gonna go back to French horn. I haven't played for over a year though, so it's gonna be a bitch at first. I'll probably shell out some money for a few lessons (if I can afford it) to get me back on track, and then I'm gonna audition for an orchestra in 2007 I think

Oh man, the tenor is the best sax, BY FAR, no question about it. It's so amazing. Hehe it's funny, I actually tried playing my alto again a few months ago because my brother is learning how to play it right now. It's amazing how your mouth muscles TOTALLY forget how to play ... like the rest of your body (brain and fingers) don't forget, but your mouth totally loses the muscles it needs to play it properly. So yeah, I totally sucked at it, I was sooo sad haha

right on ! you sound motivated- go for it! I actually wanted to play horn when i first started band in 5th grade- but it was a poor school, and we were poor, so I ended up with the trombone instead. Still love the sound of the horn- nothing like it

The trombone is soooo underrated, I'm a big trombone fan. It's probably my favorite solo instrument to listen to when it comes to jazz, it's absolutely awesome when played well. I've tried playing it a couple times, was interesting going from a tiny horn mouthpiece to the big trombone mouthpiece, hehe.

And hell yeah, the horn has the most amazing sound in the world. It's the most rewarding instrument ever, I love it so much. I developed a MUCH better ear playing it just because it's so finicky when you first start out. Learning to play that thing was the best decision I ever made! Ah, now I really can't wait to play it again

    I'm a dork, it's awesome!

yeah, well the few times I have tried to "play" the horn, the mouthpiece is so small, it feels like a trumpet to me..hehe. I have to say you show tremendous taste in your comments about the trombone. Seriously, it's great you are excited about playing again- thats very cool. Start practicing those long tones and lip slurs girl!
