hmm, i'm not really sure what to say. i feel like this was situation dependent and after he checked to me on the turn i thought there was no way he had anything, as he was too aggressive to just be checking down aces, as are most people in my opinion. I could've bet the turn harder, but i think he would've folded and not made a nice river bluff like he did, or he would've reraised and made a river bluff that was too big for me to look up. he had qts. i guess i'll reconsider doing something like this in the future, but just to clarify, its not like I make calls like this the staple of my game, i posted it because it was questionable.
Well if you have a strong read that he has nothing then go with it and bet the turn, but bet like a man. Its not so bad if he folds and you pick up the pot, problem is that if you bet so small and he calls and he sucks out on you then you are going to end up paying him off.
