Was Raising here the right play?

I realize now this wasn't a necessary play, but when it's checked around and I have something, I have to feel like I have a pretty good chance. Slowplaying the Jacks could be an option, but the way they checked quickly I didn't think anyone had a J or 7. I reraised from the button in position, and honestly didn't expect the winner to have what he had. I was putting them all on overcards or rags (Kx-s, etc.)

raising here preflop is fine, although i would probably raise a little more. i would also bet less on the flop and always fold to the raiser.
