    Default Tough hands from Saturday...

I had my worst day ever yesterday. I played for 4000 hands (a personal best), felt like I played at least my B+ game, and ended down two buyins. (I know it don't seem like that bad of a day, but at one point I was down nearly 1k.)

I took a lot of bad beats and obviously there's not much I can do about those, but this session was so bad because I was just thrust into so many sticky situations. There weren't any easy decisions. Every time I flopped something big, I was potentially (and often actually) up against an even bigger monster.

Just try to tell me if I played these ok. I am not only posting losing hands, so don't immediately assume I lost the hand when you read and comment upon it.

#1 Villain is 36/4 for a small sample. I dunno why he opened for 6x, but hadn't notice what his standard opener was. I figured him for a strong hand considering he only raises 4%. I was only praying to god that it was AQ+.

    1 raise turn (maybe push)
2 fold to the last raise on river
    3 yea
4 i might lead the turn or river, but nothing wrong with how you played it
5 raise or fold preflop. not enough people in the hand to make limping on button +ev on most tables.
6 good agaisnt that type of player
7 no reason to bet the turn against a 16/5
8 fine, but usually i bet flop
    9 good
10 i used to always call these but i think that might have been a leak. depends on the state of the game, maybe.

First hand:I would try to get it all in on the flop or at least by the turn;there is a flush draw on the flop and turn presents potential Broadway draws as well.

Second hand: Flop raise is good;turn is ok(guess he sensed a raise for value on the flop).River a raise or call is ok;hopefully he doesn't show down a better flush or worse the full boat.

Third Hand: Looks ok;you should be good more often than not.

Fourth Hand: I'm not sure if I would call the flop as villain may have already flopped the straight. That being said turn is good;I think I would look to reraise or push here.River looks bad;not sure if he has you outkicked or had the straight for the goods.

Fifth Hand: I may bet turn to continue the pressure;checking behind leaves him option to bluff a nonheart river. That being said I raise river and call reraise praying he doesn't have the better flush.

Sixth hand: I think leading or CR the turn is fine.Hopefully he didn't slowplay some retard overpair with his donk check on the flop. There's a possibility he missed with AK and was looking to resteal it from you.

Seventh Hand: I might bet a little more on the flop;turn fold is ok since calling turn means you need to call the river too.

Eighth Hand: I might reraise a little more preflop.Flop I might lead out as well.Turn raise.River call is ok.

Ninth Hand: A pot lead out or CR is fine either way.Turn I would bet more or push.River is ok.

Tenth Hand: A fold is ok but I don't see how you can laydown Rockets when you have the diamond;villain could be donking a flush draw with the King as well.Could be a set;might not be dunno.Hands like this are why I often try to leave the table after I work up a deep stack;too easy to get pawned and end up going on semi TILT.

Hand 1: Small samples make it very tough. Pokerstove suggest your golden, but that's contingent on him doing what he did with AK/AQ. (Bet big, c-bet, reraise a reraise, etc.) But it really looks like a line from a guy flopping the nuts.

  5. #5
Hand 1: AQ no g00t. Might fold pre-flop.
Hand 2: I just let this go pre-flop, 23s doesn't have good implied odds in a limped pot. Against this guy, I'd probably play it the same. River too good, opponent too loose and aggro.
Hand 3: Re-raise flop all-in if you're going to continue.
Hand 4: Fold to the flop raise, you will rarely win a big pot here.
Hand 5: Raise pre-flop or maybe fold. Everyone's hand sucks. Post-flop I play the same.
Hand 6: Given the read, sure.
Hand 7: Standard. Sometimes I check the turn.
    Hand 8: Standard.
    Hand 9: Hammer turn.
Hand 10: It depends. I'm leaning towards a fold, but it really depends.

    Full table
    Unraised pot
Probably less aggro players than you're used to dealing with

    Routine fold on the flop

Yup, what exactly are you getting 3:1 on?

hands that I beat are capable of minraising this flop, namely 5x and 67. Plus I never put too much stock in flop minraises anyway, as people are capable of doing this with as little as ace high.

yea...and besides arent you getting closer to 5:1 than 3:1?

in general, i just dont like folding to small bets and small raises on early streets against bad players.

I think you need a more open mind than this.

Min-raises are annoying because of the wide range they could represent when made by a complete unknown. However, they have this funny habbit of building pots and hence creating some implied threat. Particularly out of position.

In this case I give him credit for something until he's less of an unknown.

I don't see a problem with calling that minraise against an unknown, because even if he is strong (overpair) then I am practically getting odds to chase my five outer. I would have folded to aggression on the turn had I not hit it.

What are the chances of hitting one of your 5 outs?
What are the chances your 5 outs are good? If they're not good, how much money relative to the pot are you losing when you hit second best? Even if you catch good, what are his chances of re-sucking?
What are the chances your hand is good and won't face any further pressure?
What are the chances something interesting will turn and you'll push this unknown off his hand?

I'm not being defeatist, it's quite possible to answer those questions in such a way you should continue. I don't see it happening here.

This is the whole crux of the tight post-flop play in unraised pots argument.

    Take a step back.

How would you play poker if someone dropped $1,000,000 into the pot?
How would you play poker if someone took all but 1 bind blind out of the pot?
    Food for thought....
