200NL small 2pair in a raised pot. what do you think?

I like a flop 3-bet unless you know he is super aggro and will raise your donk lead with any two. I think your line is pretty good also.

So is it ok to tell yourself that you're gonna pay off a set if that's what he has?

That's what I said to msyelf and that's what I did.

The fact that he raised preflop made it a little easier for me to do that.


I thought that three betting the flop would only get called by better hands with this player. So I waited until a non board pairing turn to push it. But yea, he had a flopped set.

I pay off a set all day here, because an overpair is a very likely hand for this guy. This is why we raise pp's preflop.

Edit: I'm not crazy about your preflop call. Did you have a specific reason, or is this standard for you?

He only calls a 3-bet when you're beaten, but you don't really mind him folding an overpair in this spot. Your hand is vulnerable, and the pot is big enough to be worth protecting.

the guy raising is to his left, and the 'field' (in this case only one player) is between him and the raiser.

relative position is usually more important in big pots than actual position. since everyone usually checks to the raiser, then the field must act, you get to see what everyone does before you act. Rueben and Ciaffone have a chapter on this in their no limit book.
