UTG is like 36/2... Loose/Passive fish. He has about $8 behind on this river, am I a wussbucket for checking behind? Should I push him allllllliiiiinnnn baby? A could definitely peg this passive villian to be calling down with a set, but also a fd/sd... I can't always be afraid of a boat here can I....

Also, the fact that the board paired from the turn and not the flop makes me think I shouldn't have been afraid of a boat here at all.

I can't understand why you would check this. He's checking and calling, then the board pairs on the river and you're afraid of a full house? Why?

There is a cure for that you know.

Buy into the cheapest SnG and push every hand pre-flop until you bust or have at least 3x the buy-in (then stop pushing, but still play way aggro.) Repeat until you've gained a healthy disrespect for money. It's good for you, it's good for the games.

I take it this post is a sort of redemption, since this is really obvious

The worst part about it is I could have easily stacked him, since the turn and river were 2 gin cards... he showed A9 .... He wasn't going anywhere.....

    Default Rule of thumb

A good rule of thumb at these smaller games is that noone is going to check any boat/nut flush/nut straight to you on the river. They're way too worried about you checking behind than they're aware enough to think you'll bet it. There are exceptions to this, but it's +EV to use this thinking all the time at these stakes.
    Family Cruise IMO
