Anyone Trade Online

So, I signed up to etrade almost a month ago, and they suck balls. I really want to move to another company that doesn't suck. Does anyone trade stocks or bonds online, and which site do you use?

i dont trade online yet, but i am looking to get into it, well stocks and funds in general. take a look at http://www.socialpicks.com/index/alpha for some good discussion on stocks and whatnot.

and on a related note, has anyone hear heard of VoIP (voice over internet protocol). basically those commercials for Vonage/Skype broadband phone. I think that market is in store for a HUGE explosion in the next 5 years or so and am really considering investing a lot in that field.

I used to use Scotrade, but then I switched to a buy and hold strat since I didn't want to put too much time into it anymore. Now I use Sharebuilder.com. 4 dollars per buy, go to their site for details.

I use Scottrade.com but I'm looking into sogoinvest.com. I've never had any issues with Scottrade, and they have tons of branches.

How much do you need to open an account to be able to trade online? I read about doing this 3-4 years ago and seem to remember you had to initially have $25000 set up in account before you could trade. I might have been looking at a different side of trading though, its been a while.

how big is the difference between day trading and picking winners and investing for the future? i'm just starting to get into all of this with my business classes and the such but its never too early to get started.

I had a friend that invented a new hedge fund algorithm that actually performs considerably better than average hedge funds. In other words, he's kind of a economic genius. He's now makes six figures working for a bank doing some sort of excel programming that I don't understand (and I'm a computer programmer by trade, so that's saying something).

Anyway, the point of all that this guy has credentials, and he recommended a bank-roll of no less than $5000 if you're thinking about making money day-trading (I know this because I was considering it at one point and asked him about it). He said an experienced day-trader is better at it and runs into less variance and would be able to make money with a bankroll as little as $1000, but the idea of someone being experienced at day-trading and also just starting a bankroll is not really something that happens.

Well, alot of good stuff here. Basically I started with E-Trade, and their service is terrible. I have to decide of its worth looking for another site or just sticking with it.

If you don't know the answer, you will probably be better off opening up an index fund (see Vanguard) because right now you don't have enough knowledge beat the market by either of the way you mentioned.

i know i dont really know much right now, but i go to an all business college (Bentley College) that offers 18 different majors, so i know i will be in the field eventually. ive only finished my freshman year, and only took mostly general education classes, so this year is the year i really start taking business classes.

the major i'm looking at is "Corporate Finance and Accounting." i don't really want to be tied down in 1 area and dont plan on working a 9-5 job. i have quite a few business ventures i plan on investing in once i get some money to get me off the ground. it's easy to keep and increase your money once you have it. getting it is the problem.

some things you can be sure of, like getting a diverse portfolio in the Dow Jones will get you 10-12% returns each year. my first plan is when i get my first $10,000 is to put it into a Compounding Interest retirement fund, so even if i dont make it big like i think i will, i'll still have $3-4million to retire with.

as of now, i'm looking at a career in mutual funds, hedge funds, all that stuff. i think i'm taking a Venture Capital course this year, so that should be interesting. but i'm definitely looking at real estate inside and outside the united states (mid west, oregon, arizona).

it sucks being the age i am with the lack of money i have, because i wanted to invest in google as soon as it went IPO and it was selling at well over $450 earlier this year. then it split and went down and i havnt really tracked it since. i think Apple is going to be the player to watch for in the next decade. and as i mentioned before, im pretty high on VoIP.
