    Default Tough calls...

The more I play this game the more I think that most of my profit comes from making the tough calls when I have to. If I can make more good ones than bad ones I will come out a winner.

Assume no reads on either hand, I just sat down at both tables and played about 10 hands on each.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    UTG ($107.85)
    Hero ($104)
    Button ($87.85)
    SB ($81.65)
    BB ($42.15)

Preflop: Hero is MP with Q, K.
1 fold, Hero raises to $4, Button calls $4, 2 folds.

    Flop: ($9.50) J, 2, K (2 players)
Hero bets $6, Button calls $6.

    Turn: ($21.50) 7 (2 players)
Hero bets $14, Button calls $14.

    River: ($49.50) 4 (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $51, Hero calls $51.

    Final Pot: $151.50

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    CO ($137.20)
    Button ($53.10)
    SB ($68)
    Hero ($109.50)
    UTG ($64)
    MP ($82.45)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Q, A.
1 fold, MP calls $1, CO calls $1, Button calls $1, 1 fold, Hero raises to $7, MP calls $6, CO calls $6, Button folds.

    Flop: ($22.50) Q, T, 5 (3 players)
Hero bets $17, MP folds, CO calls $17.

    Turn: ($56.50) 3 (2 players)
Hero bets $40, CO raises to $113.2, Hero calls $45.50 (All-In).

    River: ($255.20) T (2 players, 1 all-in)

    Final Pot: $255.20

I will post my thoughts and their holdings after some discussion.

    1. It's close for me. I don't mind a call here. In my experience so far, awesome hands either value bet or really overbet rivers and bluffs are closer to pot-sized...anyone else think this or am I crazy?

    2. I don't like it, but maybe I'm too nitty? I've seen sets do this a lot in the past.

I think I fold in hand 1 wo a read... maybe he had a QT and really doesn't want to lose the hand, but I don't think hero is good here enough to call a psb from an unknown.

I think you made the pot too big too fast in hand 2, but I dunno being oop sucks here.

Hand 1 I fold without a read. Hand 2 I check the turn a lot of the time.

    Hand 1: As Qd
    Hand 2: As Ks

Hand 1 I would have been happy for the cheap showdown, but I was prepared to call most bets. He didn't represent any strength in this hand I thought either I was way ahead or way behind, but I wasn't gonna let him push this river.

Hand 2 was real tough, I instanly thought set I had just sat dwon so either I was going way up or I should everyone that I was willing to gambool.

If you bet $40 on the turn you are pot committed, folding is out of the question. Terrible bluff by CO BTW, add him to your buddy list.

Why are people under the fucking illusion that winning NLHE (and I'm not just talking about marginal edges here) is played against a bunch of unknown opponents?

If you want to play against unknown opponents, keep 12 tabling 50NL and under until those games finally start to suck. Or go to a casino and play LHE.

we're not under that illusion, but it's unavoidable?

Generally, I stay pretty nitty against total unknowns. When I get gutsy in blind tunnels like this (and I do sometimes), I tend to make some bad decisions, particularly in big pots.

So you are saying we shouldn't play unless we know our opponent? If this is true then why does anybody here play online? They must personally know everyone at Pstars even the ones in Fond du Loc.

Hand 1 is meh, I'm not calling without at least a tiny hint that opponent is aggro.

Hand 2 is a super easy call as played, but I like a CRAI on turn. He's gonna bet most hands when checked to but not call with a lot when you pot it again. Also, the only hand that makes sense for him to have that beats you is 55. AA/KK are extremely unlikely, TT is unlikely to not raise pre in good position behind a limp, and QT is unlikely to call such a big raise preflop. The hand really reeks of 55, but since it's only one hand, you obviously need to call the all in getting such good odds.

I believe the translation from Fnordish is, "Make reads, get paid."
