I was gonna check/call but when he bet $8 I decided c/r'ing would be fun. If he bet something like $15 I'd just call with no river plan really.

k, i'd lead out on the turn. But since you didn't, i call the turn and call a small bet on the river.

I tend to bet hands where I'm going to call a bet if i check anyway, and where I am unsure I have the best hand. So yes lead out the turn.
