Reads question: if someone tells you his hand....

if someone tells you his hand on the turn after calling a bet, and you think he's telling the truth, do you think he will fold or call a big river bet (assuming the hand he tells you is marginal like top pair bad kicker)?

Example: i fire a 2nd barrel on the turn with air to a opponent who likes to call my cont bets with air. he really thinks about his call, and actually says "i have Q8" (which gives him top pair shitty kicker). Do you think i should bet huge on the river?

How often do you play live poker and where?

In my experience they're telling the truth here around 75%+ of the time because they think telling the truth in a spot where you would expect them to lie is tricky.

Meh, I'm just thinking back on all the "tricky" idiots that have either tried to bluff me out or get me to call by telling me their hand in the chatbox. I'm sure live is very different, and I don't play live much.

An online tell that I use sometimes is that if someone says ANYTHING in the chat during a hand, they usually have a big hand that they're confident in. If they're bluffing they're usually too nervous to type anything.

The Excalibur and Mandalay Bay have AMAZING $200NL games, although they can get some pretty big pots so be prepared to play with $400+ behind. On the flip side, the play is often worse than $25NL Online. My biggest problem is conflicting views on how tight to play pre-flop.

If i flopped a hidden full house, then i would say i have nothing, slow play and hope you bet. (Remember that you might think I'm beign tricky and so you may just check.

If i flopped nothing then i may say i have a huge hand and try to steal the pot.

I may even say i have a huge hand when i do, make a big bet to make it look like I'm stealing the pot then get called or raised.

If you take an educated guess at how skilled this person is then you can tell wether he/she is telling the truth or lying.

Hard to not play tight when players are raising 20x preflop when you're only allowed to buyin initially for 100x.

Of course you would look at the persons betting patterns (i never said you shouldn't), the best thing to do would to be find out in what situation this person lies/tells the truth. and I've never played live so i wouldn't base a persons hand on how they throw there chips into the pot.

Id say at LEAST 75%. probably closer to 90% in my experience. This is online though.

I'm starting to play in some of these local NL 200 B & M games. Played at Bally's the other night and it was like 25NL except its easier to spot the drunk/idiots. I'd be willing to buy the scotch as well. a current B & M sticky would be the shit. Apologies for the hijack.

Learn to watch people's body language. Then you know whether or not they're fucking lying.

i find when people tell the exact hand ex "Q8" they are lying.

when they say something a bit more vague like "i have a big pair" they are telling the truth.

Honestly, for the most part I don't call enough in these situations to have a representative answer. I can barely think of a situation where this would be a deciding factor in online play.

Live, I think you have to take the language along w/ all the other info you have accumulated at the table (body lang. etc.)
