I'm calling hand 1 every day of the week, the overbet looks real dodgy imo.

Hand 1 - WOW.. i can't believe you folded that. I think you HAVE to call that, especially since you checked through the turn and opened yourself up for bluffs. Hell... I might even find a value raise here ... a 4 AF, he could easily be raising a bare A on that flop.

Hand 2 - this is fine, I would play it the same. Or bet the flop and then check the turn and call the river.

hand 1, fold, he has straight flush, obv. (????)
hand 2, board is pretty grusome, but I assume villian with those stats is spewy post flop, and it's a pretty cheap showdown. On deep reflection, I think you line is significantly better than leading the flop, because a raise is really horrible for you.

I guess I just don't get it. The first thing your post says is that this guy is a donkey at 53/30ish/4+!

So given this guys stats, and his very high AF, I don't see how either of these aren't insta-calls. Especially given how cheap these river calls are.

If you said villain was 10/4/0.85 nitty or something, thats a different story. But even in this case, I still think I would call both of these. I might find a fold in hand 2, but still call hand 1 for sure.

I was thinking more that he was getting tricky with a boat. If the board didn't pair and he didn't check the turn, I obv. instacall but I just don't see a low stakes donk check/minraising the flop/checking the turn/overbetting the river with something I beat.

Yeah, this is how I play pretty much every monotone board that I hit 1 pair. I just go for the cheap showdown/pot control garbage. Bet on turn if checked to. He had AxKd in this hand so I was pretty happy about checking it since he would've c/r'ed and I wanted to see a showdown against him.

Hand 1 is a call and I would be very, very surprised if opp has a boat

I would bet the flop in Hand 2. Flopped flushes are rare and if someone wants to chase with a lone Diamond then so be it. But I can see nothing wrong with the way you played it either.
