Iv read a few posts now saying stuff like he was 50/6 or 70/0 for table stats

i just dont get it what is all this?

this is VP$IP (voluntarily put money in pot)/PFR (preflop raise) stats. These are common Poker Tracker stats used for both player tendencies/descriptions as well as table descriptions.

To expand on what Bode-ist mentioned, if you have a program like Poker Tracker that works with another program like Poker Ace Hud, then you will get stats on each player that tell you such things as VP$IP, PFR (both mentioned above), Total Aggression, etc.

These stats will help you determine what types of hands a player may be playing. For example; a player with a VP$IP of 10 over a large sample of hands who raises UTG will most likely have a pretty good hand. On the other hand, a player with a VP$IP of 45 who makes the same raise may have a lesser hand.

With all of that said, you need to be REALLY careful with these stats until you have a pretty large sample size (another stat you will have is the number of hands that you have played against this player).

i would stongly encourage you to either get Poker Tracker or Poker Office if you are serious about playing. Its an invaluable resource that pays for itself multiple times over. If you dont quite have the money up front for one of these programs, there are several promotions you can do to get them for free.

When you are reading posts you can translate the numbers to mean the following approximations (Note: These numbers are MY guidelines and may vary greatly from player to player).

VP$IP <10 - Tight Player
VP$IP 10>30 - Average Player
VP$IP 30>60 - Loose Player
VP$IP >60 - Very Loose Player

PFR <4 - Weak Player
PFR 4>8 - Average
PFR >8 - Aggressive

When reading posts that included these numbers, if you translate to the above it will help you understand why hands are played a particular way.

For example a player with stats of 60/8 is very LAGGY (Loose and Aggressive), a player with stats of 8/2 is "Weak/Tight" and a player with stats of 6/12 is TAGGY (Tight, but Aggressive).

These are all wrong, way off and not even close. 60/8 is a fish to the Nth degree. You can't be 6/12 ever because you can't raise more hands than you play and 8/2 is nitty.

The PFR% that you refer to has nothing to do with aggression in the sense that you are using it.
I also have rarely if ever seen a player <10% VP$P so to call that tight and have a broad range of 10%-30% as average does nothing to define a player.
