can you speak your hand after you've folded?

What are the "ethics" involved in online games with the chat box, as it relates to saying what you folded while the hand is still going on (i.e. flop K-rag-rag... chat:"damn, folded a K")

Is this a line that you're just not supposed to cross (kinda like hitting a gal ), or is it just "part of the game"? Saw it happen twice tonight, and wondering if it is a "tool" that could be used in the right situation, or would it get accusations of collusion, whether you know anyone at the table or not.

Any thoughts?

i don't think it's ok to talk about your hand when other players are still in that hand and playing. it's ok if everybody is already all-in.

i guess it is forbidden in the t&c of the pokerrooms, otherwise you could easily kill the action for some opponents or collude with other players if you tell what hand you've folded. anybody knows for sure, if it is forbidden?

Not sure. I've done it to influence weak players to play against aggressive players, and I've done it to put opponents on tilt while I'm playing a tight aggressive game.

If it's against the rules I would like to know.

I don't do this any more, but I used to. It's awfully dirty. Just like I used to play 2 or 3 regular SnGs at a time and wait the max time just to make a click to make the table tilt and go nuts.

Let's be clear here - announcing what cards you folded while play is still going on is extremely bad form as it has an active influence on the decisions of the players still in.

Imagine the flop comes AAx and KK decides to check. The other guy then bets the pot, repping an ace - KK may well decide to fold. However, if the other guy bets and you then announce "dammit! I folded AA!" (not very likely I know ) then KK will suddenly feel that he is in a MUCH stronger position and will almost certainly alter his action accordingly, to the huge detriment of the other guy.

It's against the rules, you are not allowed to divulge your hole cards while the hand is still in play, unless "you" are HU with another opponent. It's concidered collusion.

I've often wondered if it was "ok" to talk about the hand while HU with another player. Let's say you feel the guy is trying to draw out on you and you think you have best hand now. Is it still "ok" to say something like:

"I hope you can beat top pair cuz you're going to need it" or come right out and say "I've got pocket Aces buddy - hope you know what you're doing".

Intimidation in other words. Funny how they block chat when one person goes all-in. It prevents you from getting into your opponents head while he is deciding to call or not. You can trash talk in a live game (aka Tony G) and taunt your opponent - why not in online? I feel that they should allow the players still in the hand to chat while blocking out the watchers.

I don't pay too much attention to what people who have folded already are saying. But one thing that can be profitable is to note when people still in the hand say something like "i have the flush" and bet. If it goes to showdown take note on if they were lying or not. Of course don't depend on this read too much but it can sway close decisions.

Its ok once everyone is allin or folded but not while the hand is going on.


I dont know about all online poker rooms but its certainly against alot of their T&Cs

Having said that I strongly doubt youll get more than a warning, but if you do it anyway God will probably take your firstborn.

As far as I know nothing (at least in stars chat FAQ) explictily allows you to do so.
However I think that the stars team may revoke your chat privilege if someone complains.

In live games I think the rules are that you are not allowed to discuss your hand (whether you folded or not). They tend to allow players to do so if they are involved in the hand and it is heads up

What about someone not in the hand telling another player how to play? Like i was playing against someone adn was betting into him, and the guy out of the hand was telling the other guy that i was bluffing and to go all in. What about this situation?

rude as hell, if the players are still in a hand with possible betting. it helps figure more accurately odds, reads, etc.

reminds me of a recent HSP episode where "the mouth" said something like, "wow, a RR, you i think we know what that means out of Antonio."

Estfandiari blew a gasket after the hand, and mike apologized profusely, explaining that he should never have said anything.

whether it describes your hand or not, its simply very rude while the hand is still going on.

think of it this way. you have AA. you play very tight, typically, and a maniac says, "watch out, bluffy, he never RRes. i bet its AA." and your villain promptly folds. how pissed off would you get?

I think this is ethically wrong but it isn't against any rules.

Saying your cards after you fold in any way (either verbally or slamming the table) while there is still action is however wrong and against the rules.
