Default Wow you taggs sure have lots of discipline... (low content)

Probably wrong forum since this is content-lite and basically pointless...

But how do you guys do it?

Seriously, how do ppl run at like 21/17 for hours and hours grinding like 4-5 ptbb's/100?

I've been looking to lengthen my sessions and lessen my variance since I've switched sites for a juicy RB deal. Instead of playing 38/23 I've switched to a 22/17 style.

It's o.k. and not too tough to grind out a decent winrate.

BUT OMG HOW DO YOU GUYS WHO PLAY A MILLION HOURS A DAY DO IT IT'S SO BORING I FEEL LIKE KILLING MYSELF.

Seriously, do you guys watch t.v., whack off, do blow while playing?...

I know the last sentence started with "seriously", but I actually am seriously wondering, how many winners at low-midstakes feel like they stay highly concentrated and devote their attention exclusively to the tables while playing ABC taggy poker?

I've been dabbling in short sessions at lowstakes I'm overolled for for a long time but always managed to have fun by playing insanely laggy (obv unecessary to beating the game). For every hour I played, I probably spent 2-3 hours posting, reading and discussing poker-related stuff. Basically I'm poker-obsessed and love poker theory.

I've come to accept - reluctantly - that getting myself to grind more hands will be easier as I adopt a lower-variance, less emotionally exhausting style.

So to people like Lukie, Renton, Irish... basically anybody for whom 1k hands in a day is a joke : what % of your sessions do you feel legitimately involved in and stimulated by the action?

Maybe I just need some ritalin or something.
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?

    You run 38/23???

It's not that bad ur probably just so used to playing twice as many hands that it feels like its so boring.
It's like when someone has 8 hours of homework a day, and suddenly only has 2 hours, they feel like it's so much less. But for the person who almost never has homework, 2 hours feels like the 8 for the other guy.

First off, how many tables are you playing at a time?

I play eight tables on certain sites/limits, and lately I have been trying to open up my game a bit (going from 18/13 nit, to 25/19 tagg) and I have found it quite stressful trying to manage eight tables at once when I am frequently getting into blind wars or rasing the button with junk then trying to bluff post-flop.
So if you are playing 8+ tables then it is easy to play this low variance style.
However, I agree with you that it is quite boring if you are playing four tables or less.

What is worse is going to my local casino and playing full ring live poker and folding 85% of my hands when I am seeing only 30 hands an hour.
    Now that is boring!

Anyways, the point is, if you are bored play more tables!
Or find a happy medium such as 26/20.

I'm always watching TV while playing. I like to play LAgg style but it's just not right on the shitty sites I frequent. Sometimes the table conditions are right and it's fun to get crazy. But for the most part I'm facing call station loose passives.

But anyway. I watch TV, use MSN, surf FTR simaltaneously while I'm playing to keep myself from dropping into a coma.

this is what I thought. thx.

fwiw I was used to playing what seemed like every hand on 4 tables. It was exhausting but sooooooo much fun. Usually it took about 3 orbits for every reg to be tilted and every fish to be gunning for me.

Things just got so crazy postflop... Every hand seemed like the end of the world. I liked this dynamic a lot and felt like I had a really big edge in those situations. I remember a sequence of 6k hands or so in december where I ran at 46/27 for something like 23ptbb/100.

Like I mentioned before, it's just too stressful so I'd usually burn out after like 90 minutes but feel like I'd played 478902348932 times more "poker" than I do playing ABC tagg in a 3 hour session.

Wow gabe 35/25 on 7-8 tables blows my mind. I suppose it's manageable if the player pool is small but vs unknowns this would be impossible for me I think.

Think I'll bump up my tables to 5-6 as 4 was the norm before but is definitely too boring playing tagg.

It's nothing to do with how many hands you play t's just a personality thing, I'm just the type of person who can do boring stuff for hours on end if needs be. I just have a good robot mode.

How do you think some of us got our post counts as high as we did? 6 tabling while playing like a bit of an automaton and passing time on FTR

    I also read a lot of fark.com

Um, playing poker is fun. Asking me to play poker is like offering an exotic woman I can make love to for 5 hours. Anticipation of raping someone for more $$ than I make in a day at work kind of breaks up the boredom as well.

Also, you should get some online poker friends. I have a couple people from FTR I'm always instant messaging, or talking to as I play. If you watch card runners videos, you'll notice they're always recieving an instant message from someone.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

If you play with the creativity of a lag but with tag stats i think u can make the most money of all. That means folding AQ for one bet sometimes and 4 bet shoving J3s other times. If you play 21/17 like a robot, but 38/23 like a poker player, then definitely play 38/23.

Also me playin 23/19ish has a lot to do with stars 3/6nl tables and their avg seen flop % of about 15 (yes MEAN over all tables I kid you not)
I got more flava than fruitstripe gum

I used to play a standard 19/15 game, got kind of bored with it and my winrate was very mediocre and my swings were huge. Then in February I experimented playing much looser and more aggressive, and now play about 24/21 overall. Not only is it a lot more enjoyable to play, it's been a lot more profitable as well. It could just be variance, but I doubt it. I generally play 6 tables with good game selection, fwiw.
