hand 1: I'm lost. I honestly have no idea what to do. Your line looks fine.
Hand 2: fine, not a lot of light three betting anymore at low stakes.

heh, i still laugh about $100NL being "low stakes" sometimes. a 10buyin swing in 2 hours is more than what people working can make in a week.

hand 1: std/fine as is raising flop

hand 2: wtf- id never fold this ever but maybe against an uber nit

    my questions are:

hand 1...why not raise the flop? he bets into you, maybe on a draw. and you raised first pf, and have TPGK. i say pop him, and see what he does, then give up, if need be.

hand 2...why not call? you are a flip w/ <QQ and wouldnt AQ, sc's raise the same here? definitely nitty on this one? you must be waiting on AA to smooth call.

j/k, i am by far no expert, but if i didnt at least call w/ AK, and no read, i would expect to get flamed a bit. correct me if i am wrong, but the only read you gave us was "typical stars nits."

for hand 1, i mix it up. sometimes i raise, sometimes i call.

the problem with AK is it's only a coinflip if we see all 5 cards. we're missing the flop ~2/3 of the time, and we'll be in a bad position in a pretty big pot against a wide range that beat us. being out of position really hurts us here, since we can't get the almost guaranteed 4th card.

what's your default play if you whiff?

let's assume boards are not stupid like 333. something like...Qh8s3s

I don't play on stars, how nitty is a stars nit anyhow??

He'd have to be like 10/3 for me to completely abandon AK, just because i'm OOP.

If you wanna see all 5 cards with AK, then shove =) I think I like that better than folding even, though I'm not sure what stars nit means.

my sentiments exactly- i play in less nitty games. I dont see why you wouldnt raise here at least 80% of the time

I like the fold in Hand #2 against a nit. Of course, it depends on just how nitty he is...

sauce you play in games where felting AK is standard, at 100 and 200nl it's not. No one threebets evenAQ+, TT+, it's more like AK/JJ+ if not tighter.

folding AK to a 3-bet is so exploitable. If you know an opponent regularly does this it will be profitable to 3-bet this player with air as long as you dont overdo it and so he still thinks you are somewhat tight. Say someone raises 12% of his hands and calls 3-bets with 99+ OOP which is only 2,7% of all hands. Say you reraise 3x his raise then and he only calls 2,7/12% of the time then the 3bet itself automatically shows a profit disregarding flop play or the 3-bettors cards.

Why are you playing on a site full of nits? Seriously?

    Hand 1. Raise the flop.

    Hand 2.

    I think I'd shove here.

because even nits can be exploited profitably. and i had 2 outstanding bonuses, plus the 3rd one for the 1 billion hand promotion.

and after loose-passive games, tight-passive games are the next most profitable games. i think Ed Miller had an article on this in his blog. and even though i'm running "standard TAG" 21/16, i still feel like i'm the table bully LAG most of the time. LAGs are the players you definitely do NOT want at your table.

bad lags=u make tons of monies

good lags= there are very, very few below 1000nl

mediocre lags- better for the table usually than a mediocre tag

Standard. Like ISF pointed out, 100NL nits have a 3-betting range of AA/KK, maybe QQ/AK. First hand is slightly ahead/far behind against most villains, against a nit it's just far behind.

so what you guys are thinking is that THIS particular nit can only have AA/KK here? nothing else? i understand that you are a flip to pairs under QQ, but what if hes not paired? have you seen AQ do this? what about KQ?

i know most dont think at this level, but does THIS villain? hyper, could you be laggy? or, at least have that image? i dont know how you play, but if you look laggy to me, i 3bet with all sorts of stuff when i have position on you.

just saying, w/ AK, i think its worth a call.

standard lines against a nit...when i hit, i c/r flop, when i miss i lead out and see what he does. thats it, if he responds to either one, and i dont improve on the turn, i am done with the hand. but, i change that up, too. but, i have a taggy image, and most dont think i am capable of c/ring w/o a humongous hand. and, they also know i only lead out if i hit the flop w/ TP..

usually, those will get a nit to fold off all but strong hands. say he has QQ and has an overpair, i lead, he calls. however, when the K hits against his QQ, i check, he bets, i bomb, he drops. almost w/o fail.

it just depends on the board, if it's dry i probably c/c the flop, and then check the turn and act depending on the opponents action. This is assuming the board is Kxx or Axx and not KQJ or AQJ or AQT. Those boards i'm playing a lot more cautiously. If the board is KQx and he double barrels i'll probably fold.

what's your default play if you whiff?
c/f. If i hit an A high flush draw c/p.

i've yet to come up against someone who will 3bet me light. and if i did, i would leave the table. adjusting is break-even at best since they still have position on you every time you confront them.

    agreed.

table selection is underrated...err...not practiced properly by most, imo.
