    Default Adding a second monitor

ok, this is something I've wanted to do for a while but as much as I'm on the computer for one reason or another, I am amazingly bad/incompetent with them from a hardware standpoint.

my current display setup goes something like this: dell 3007wfp (30 incher). It's running off a GeForce 7800 GTX graphics card which has an open DVI slot on it.

I'd like to add a 20 incher to my setup as well. The plan would be to have it stand up vertically so it's adding another 1200x1600 res to go along with the 2560x1600 of the 30" one. I've seen this setup a few times on 2p2 (and another couple with a 20 incher on either side which would be cool, but i'm not sure i really want to hastle with putting in another video card and i have no idea if my computer could even support it).

so anyway, I'm assuming that the only other hardware i'd need is the actual monitor, no new video cards or anything. also, which of the 20 inch monitors even have the capability of standing up vertically? I'm thinking of getting the samsung 20" 204B fwiw, but anything comparable/better works as well.

thanks in advance for any responses, they would really help a lot.

are you implying you are really good/competent from a software standpoint?

    1) i don't really like the idea of having the split down the middle of my setup, would rather have it somewhere off to the side

    2) mucho dinero

    3) despite 1&2, i actually was going to do this but apparently there wasn't a slot for something on my motherboard? and it was basically impossible to do it with my cpu setup.

hence, a year later, this post.

you sure you have an open dvi? It would need to have 3 dvi ports on one card cuz the 30 incher uses 2 ports. Its pretty much tricking your computer into thinking its two seperate displays.
You-- yes, you-- you're a cunt.

wait.. does your motherboard have onboard video? If so you should have an open dvi or vga slot there. If not you need to buy a gfx card. Hopefully your computer has sli, cuz then you can just get a inexpensive PCIe card, otherwise you gotta get a pci card.

lukie all you have to do is buy a dell 2001/7fp and connect the dvi cable to your open dvi port on your card. Then go into properties on your computer or use the software that came with the gfx card and set the monitor to vertical and click on extend my windows desktop to this monitor and your done. Get the monitor and call me and i can walk you through it if im by a computer, its really easy.

thx for the help, but went the store and bought the samsung 204b? earlier and set it up earlier, had no idea it would be so easy.

may add a 2nd video card and 3rd monitor in the near future, that may be a bit more tricky.
