    Default Operation Anti Tilt

I've gone on like 3 major tilts in my short lived poker career...had my bankroll as high as over $500 and as low as $0.

I'm playing better poker these days...the last week or two...reading more hand histories after losing (and winning) and stepping away from the computer when I lose 3 buyins in a row...also reading and taking to heart the advice of the people on here who seem to know what they are talking about... tilt has been a problem with me in the past...I seem to go on major downswings when playing angry or tired or rushed...I'm changing my ways.

Right now I'm playing $6.50 turbo sng's. I'll occasionally play heads up for low stakes and for a while I was playing $11's. I'll move back up when I'm rolled for it.

I should have known last night was going to be bad when in my first sng I got quads and tried to show them and accidentally clicked much. The next hand I was dealt 66 and a guy in front of me pushed (this is still early) I went to fold and accidentally clicked call. He had AQ and caught an ace. This was a bad start. Down a few buyins and I caught a win at the end of the night. Probably should have taken my own advice and quit after being down 3 buyins.

Strange strange weekend of poker. I tend to play too many hands and too many games when I know I have a full night with no distractions in front of me. This is what happened Friday and Saturday. Had the house to myself...played a lot of sng's and got down to maybe $140 at one point never coming close to betting back to square one.

Last night I fired up a couple of sng's a couple of hours before bed and won them both. I seem to play better when I feel some pressure to play better. Like "I can only play a couple of games I better do well"

and the couple of times I've tilted in the past have been on nights that I had the entire night to play poker.

The other thing I'm starting to mix in more is cash games. I enjoy sng's and I'm grinding pretty well right now in the grand scheme of things but all of the players who really do well here (for the most part) play cash games. I did pretty well last night playing in a 6 max cash game and ended up back up with my br at $220.

    He slowplayed you fine.
When you see people "thinking", endlessly delaying play then coming over the top with a small raise, its a trap. Smell it from afar.
Think about it this way: with that board, what could he possibly have to be raising? Why is he hesitating so much to play?
His hand is already made. Or he's on a monster draw. On this board, monster draw is not possible therefore its the former.
    He's trapping you.

Its definitely not bad play( tough hand to get away from), but you have to see these tells, and get away from second bests.
    Hope that helps.

Yea I agree and realized after posting this hand that it was probably a terrible play to push but just see so many people at this level ($6 sng) pull this same raise type move with something like a pair of 8's. With no reads I probably should have folded here. I do have to wonder why he would call a raise preflop with K7o but hell...I was dumb enough to raise it with K9s.

    I had a good rest of the night. 3rds and 1 2nd.

I'm trying to think of if I could have played this worse...didn't raise more preflop because the last 4 times I've had AA and bet a decent pot I get 0 callers

I just couldn't lay down trip aces

that hand aside I've got 9 straight cashes (winless) in SNG's and I'm on a pretty good upswing...going well.
  15. #15
11 cashes in a row and finally a win.
  16. #16
Umm you didn't even have trip aces, horrendous call brotha.

I was dealt AA and the flop had an ace. Not trips?

But yes...it was a terrible call.

If you're cashing but not winning you need to look at your bubble and heads up play.

Either you're too passove on the bubble and hence getting lots of thirds or your letting it go heads up and need to re evaluate that sort of game.

I had a 2nd place and a win last night in three games. Game I got knocked out I pushed with pocket aces and got called by suited K9 and the guy hit a flush. Very nice.

I actually think I'm getting too aggressive on the bubble and especially when I get to heads up. I went into HU last night in the sng I placed 2nd with a 2 to 1 chip lead and just made some bad plays.
  21. #21
Took 4th last night in a 650 man $3 turbo MTT. Was chip leader with 4 left got dealt AK and called a push for about 3/4 of my stack. Villian had 99. Flop had a K in it and an Ace hit on the turn. River was a 9

Still won $133 for a $3 buyin. Pretty nice. Good news is that now the bankroll can support $11 sng's. The grind goes on.
  22. #22
Sounds like a nice MTT result congrats.
Will you be moving to regular speed $11 or turbos?

I generally play the turbo's at FT...the blinds there are still not extremely fast at their turbo's. It can still take probably 40 to 60 minutes to cash. If I hit a downswing though and get below $350 I'll move back down. I've been playing pretty well at the $6's.

    And thanks!
  24. #24
I figured it was at tilt. The 11 turbos sound quite soft there so you should crush them providing horrible variance doesn't spoil it. I think $350 is a good place to drop down and rebuild.

Do you multi-table or just play single at a time?

I don't like to play more than 2 tables at a time. 3 makes my head spin, 4 makes me feel a little sick.
  26. #26
little downswing...pretty good upswing...$550 or so right now. Running pretty good.
  27. #27
Got down to around $400 on a slight downswing...had a pretty good night last night with 2 2nd's and a 3rd and currently at $520. Cracking the $600 mark will be a good feeling and I'd be much closer to that if I hadn't lost about $50 on cash games trying to explore that avenue one bored day.
  28. #28
Two wins late last night and up to $650. Probably wait until mid $700's before giving $22's a shot if at all. I'm pretty comfortable at $11's lately.
  29. #29
I'd take a shot soon because your bankroll can support it and for playing an almost identical strategy you're earning twice as much. I honestly don't think there is a big gap between the 11's and 22's, although thats from stars so I may be slightly off.

Also, if you feel comfortable at the 11's, maybe try adding another table and see if you adjust. If you can your hourly rate will mount up a bit and you'll probably gain some more confidence too.

I two table now and ocasionally three table if I've got a MTT going at the same time. When it gets down to the bubble with two tables I get very rattled going back and forth...I'd be more apt to move up than to add tables.
  31. #31
$870 with 5 cashes (two wins) in a row. Mixing in $22's now and still trying to mix in the ocassional cash game. Getting close. I think having a goal number to get to is important...it really keeps me on my toes.

way to go. keep grinding and you should have no problem with the 22's. Be careful mixing cash games and sngs. Ive never had trouble mixing sngs w/ mtts, but i always struggled mixing cash and sngs.

Yea yesterday I put some money in a cash room and honestly couldn't believe the suckouts and bad calls I saw...most of them had me on the losing end.
