    Default J-9s 400NL

Villain seems like he is a pretty bad player in general. No HUD stats available, also only my 2-3rd orbit at the table.

Do you think my hand is strong enough to check behind, or do i need to turn my hand into a bluff?

    turn raise good/bad?

i usually bet the flop here. as played i like the turn play. i'm not sure i like the river bet here...mainly because i don't see a hand that calls that we beat.

Why are you turning your good showdown value hand into a bluff.

what hand that beats you are you hoping will fold to this?

I think I like the turn, there are some better hands you can get him off. It really depends on his calling frequency from the blinds, some players will only have monsters here, some will have all sorts of trash. Unfortunately we don't have this info.

It sucks when he 4bets but I guess we have to call. At this point I'm leaning towards thinking that he has a monster. This turns me against the river bluff, I fell he will make a crying call too often.

Gabe I don't like 4betting the turn because I don't think he folds 2pr+. He likes his hand a lot.

If your opponent folds anything he played this way on the turn to your river bet he is bad because although the board is scary it doesnt appear to have changed the strength of the hand you rep on the turn unless you checked the flop with the nuts which you never have here

hyper i checked the flop because i wasn't going to 3bet all in on this flop if i got check/raised.

you think my river shove is more of a value bet? or am i misinterpreting what you are saying?

dean i didn't think my hand was strong relative to my opponents' range at the time. I would consider a lot of his range to be 5-5/8-8/J-10. i can't think of any made hands he plays this way that we beat besides perhaps J-8.

I was hoping i could get a set to fold. considering i thought he was a bad player, i didn't think he was wondering what i had so much as what he had and how it related to the board. I didn't know at the time whether he was a call station or not, which may/may not be a good enough case to not try and bluff in this situation. i didn't want to check when i was quite certain i didn't have the best hand and i knew he couldn't like the texture of the board.

why do some of you think going all in on the turn would be a good play? i don't think we have much fold equity, so is it just because we have sooo many outs and we might get him to fold like 10-15% of the time as well as the fact we probably have little implied odds on river cards that improve our hand?

Checking this flop is setting fire to money. You turned a hand where you could have value bet the flop and committed on the turn into a real mess.

also, thanks to everyone who did reply.

he folded to my river bet. either he was a terribly spewy player or the hand put him on tilt, because for the next half hour i was at the table he was 3betting once every orbit. He showed down 7-5o after 3betting a UTG open.
