    Default Calling All Programmers

My girlfriend's job is requiring her to work with sharepoint more and more. She builds systems using (I'm guessing at this) sharepoint forms, sql, and possibly vb? I don't think that's important. It started out as a few side projects and since she's pretty bright they have her taking over more and more. Since she doesn't have any kind of computer science or programming background, I think she's starting to struggle on the conceptual side of programming. I remember my CS classes describing the 8-9 steps of coding and the actual programming being step 6 or 7. I think she could benefit from a book that looks at the concepts of planning out your system visually, drawing out exhaustive test cases, etc, etc. It's been a long time since I've touched anything CS related and was wondering if people could give me ideas or book references that might be fun to read and help her out.

I've been looking into some similar stuff and found that MIT (and some other universities) make videos of some of their classes freely available online. They call it Open Courseware.

Check out this link, I'm only a few lectures into the 6.00 course, but it's MIT, how bad can it be?

Code Complete is awesome and a pretty easy read assuming you're a coding dork

Yeah, Code Complete was what came to mind for me. Maybe some kind of Test Driven Design book also.

Red, I do what your GF does for a living albeit at a slightly higher level so I'll give this a think.

Off the top of my head, I wouldn't recommend any Microsoft books (obv) but they do a ton of instructional vids that are usually free on the web.
