NFL question - Franchise and League passing records in 2007

Why did every starting QB set franchise records in passing this year?

Roethlisberger, Anderson, Romo, Brady, Palmer (?), Hasselbeck, Brees

Do the rules loan themselves to more passing these days? Is more talent going to the offensive side of the ball? Is the average QB of today more qualified than yesteryears? Why is passing so "easy" this year?
