the low E string on my electric guitar buzzes when played open. anything that I can do to fix this. It's a yamaha that is about 4 years old. I changed the strings recently to try to fix this, but it didn't work.

Can you tell exactly where the buzz is coming from? If its buzzing on the first fret then you probably need a new nut. Also, the springs/screws on the bridge tend to come lose now and then on the old Yamaha Pacifica models (the 112 IIRC) | |

I believe thicker strings could alleviate this if it's mild due to tension issues. I'm not sure, but I had this problem then it went away some time after I started using the thickest strings around. I used them for a loooong time though and they may have done nothing anyways. |
