Theory: LAG style play
As you know I've been playing pretty much ABC (but perhaps tricky) tightish poker and I really think I need to start to work on my LAG game.
I can play very LAG HU and I think I need to at least be capable of playing LAG in short handed games also. My stabs at 5kNL haven't been very successful and I think it's partly because I'm having a hard time against the LAGs. If I know how to play like one I might know better how to play against one.
I'm used to playing short handed with a solid image and it's of course very different to play with a bad one. I thought I would experiment and try to play some really LAG poker at lower stakes than where I usually play and see how it goes. I played a pretty long session at 400NL and my stats were 34/27/2.4 over 1700 hands.
I got my opponents to go completely ape from my 3-betting in position with a wide range. This is probably something the LAGs here are used to, but this never happens to me when I'm playing with a solid image:
Villain is unknown 22/14/2.5, and I have been 3-betting him constantly.
Seat 1: BUTTON ($400.00 in chips)
Seat 3: SB ($298.90 in chips)
Seat 4: BB ($394.00 in chips)
Seat 9: UTG ($559.00 in chips)
Seat 10: HERO [ JS,JH ] ($762.90 in chips)
ANTES/BLINDS
SB posts blind ($2), BB posts blind ($4).
PRE-FLOP
UTG bets $14, HERO bets $46, BUTTON folds, SB folds, BB folds, UTG calls $32.
FLOP [board cards 10D,6H,6D ]
UTG checks, HERO bets $75, UTG bets $200, HERO bets $641.90 and is all-in, UTG calls $313 and is all-in.
TURN [board cards 10D,6H,6D,AC ]
RIVER [board cards 10D,6H,6D,AC,8S ]
SHOWDOWN
HERO shows [ JS,JH ]
UTG shows [ KS,QD ]
HERO wins $1,324.90
Another one: Villain is a good 1kNL regular LAG. Probably down at 400NL because there was very little action at higher stakes at the time. It felt like he was a bit tilted after I 4-bet shoved KTs on him and sucked out against his AK.
Seat 1: CUTOFF ($430.50 in chips)
Seat 3: BUTTON ($525.40 in chips)
Seat 4: SB ($515.50 in chips)
Seat 9: BB ($405.00 in chips)
Seat 10: HERO [ AS,8D ] ($932.50 in chips)
ANTES/BLINDS
SB posts blind ($2), BB posts blind ($4).
PRE-FLOP
HERO bets $14, CUTOFF calls $14, BUTTON folds, SB calls 12, BB calls 10.
FLOP [board cards 8C,4H,2C ] (POT $56)
SB checks, BB checks, HERO bets $45, SB folds, BB calls.
TURN [board cards 8C,4H,2C,QD ] (POT $146)
BB checks, HERO bets $873.50 and is all-in, BB calls $348.00 and is all-in.
RIVER [board cards 8C,4H,2C,QC,KH ]
SHOWDOWN
HERO shows [ AS,8D ]
BB shows [ 9S,2S ]
Anyone here playing with PFR > 25? Any advice before I take stabs at 1kNL with this style? Or should I not even try?
