Default sorry to bring this up...

I know you don't discuss politics with friends, but I can't help this...

If Mike Huckabee becomes out next president I'm slitting my wrists or moving to Canada...whichever is the least painful/easiest.

It's Mccain and Romney now so don't worry Huck has no chance.

romney is partners in a firm thats trying to buy Clear Channel . cant win it , buy it !

mccain is ... for me , a bit too gung-ho . he likes to say that we'll ' never surrender ' in the middle east , no matter what the costs . i can understand how the gained this die-hard patriotic mentality spending time oversea's as a POW , but really .. . . how many american lives (or any lives for that matter) are worth Iraqi oil ? ?

I hate McCain the least of all the Repubicans... I actually liked him a little before he sold his soul to the R. Party and supported G.W. in '04.

Hillary is too polarizing... there are so many people that HATE her... she will DRIVE people to the polls... to vote against her. I'm voting Dem regardless because i tend to agree with some of the things they support, but I'm hoping Obama wins the nomination. I'm very fearful that if Hillary wins the nom, that McCain will take the swing voters and win the whole thing. (i also worry about who his VP will be, because McCain is old and I could easily see him dying in office.)

mccain is a badass though because he was a vietnam prisoner of war for 5.5 years !

also trivia question: who was the youngest president ever ? wasnt jfk !
  8. #8
Teddy Roosevelt , at 42 when McKinley was killed .

JFK was the youngest elected president at 43

mccain is like the republican's lieberman. he belongs to the other party for the most part.

all i really care about this election is electing someone who will NOT support government healthcare (which pretty much just means no democrats). also, hillary scares the crap out of me as she seems to think that government is the answer to all problems, and seems to be a socialist.

also, i am sick and tired of hearing giuliani talk about himself and 911.

Huckabee looks just like that moronic president from one of the seasons of 24

He also looks like some of those Nixon caricatures

    are these your own odds?

also, fuck hillary. if she gets elected president we can pretty much be guaranteed that we have a second mommy (that is the government), because she will make it so the government is involved in as many parts of your lives as possible.

I don't think this country is ready to elect a black or female president, and that will show come election time, not so much in the primaries (obv.) but people tend to shy away from different. Never underestimate someone's willingness to remain comfortable and resist change.

I would like to preface this by saying that I'm not a Hillary supporter. I don't hate and loathe her (which is a backhanded way of supporting her acc. to some...) but speaking honestly...

I'm a parent with two little kids, and I definitely do not want the government dictating exactly how I raise/discipline/educate my children, however, my wife and I also read quite a lot about parenting and I spend a TON of time trying to raise polite, respectful, happy, thinking, intelligent kids. This is not an easy thing and I by no means are we "highly" successful.. but I like to think we're doing a better than average job of it.

With most other children with whom I interact, they are either spoiled (or insanely wild) or tend to walk on egg shells for fear of being hit by their parent... raising kids is pretty damn hard, and I think the majority of people are failing miserably...

Maybe failing as parents is something that has gone on for all time and therefore it doesn't really matter as much as I think. But I know I had negative aspects of my life that affect me negatively today... and it just kills me to see people essentially abusing little kids (in one way or another).

I'm not advocating for anything in particular, but would it be all that bad offer if there were programs (be they state or federal) that offered support to new families on how not to royally fuck up ones children?

Cliff Notes: kingnat gets a little emo about kids, and offers suggestions about things he doesn't really know a damn thing about.

Having everyone get basic healthcare, while leaving us perfectly able to get our own private healthcare too, would be awesome. Having to pay for it, especially as a poker player who pays obscene %s of taxes, sucks my nuts.

QFT. I've been saying this since 2004.

I was thinking about it yesterday and I decided maybe Obama had a chance. The whole 9/11 thing has directed white anger from the darkies to the towel heads. Then I went to lunch today with people from work in BFO...

"Obama has no chance, too many ties to the Muslims"
"Yeah, I mean his middle name is Hussein"
"There aren't many good potentials. I really liked huckabee but looks like he's out"

Don't forget that the majority of Americans aren't thinking educated people. They're rural, god fearing, ignorant type, just ask spoon.

Note: Had you asked me today I would have called the people I went to lunch with "thinking people". Not so sure anymore.

I also love how absolutely farking stupid the american public is.

Pull a random voter off the street and ask him/her to explain the differences in beliefs between hillary and obama, and then again for romney/mccain. I would bet you close to 85% couldn't do it.

And finally, I love that there are people that are so rich out there that they can consistently run in third place out of oh.. about three people.. and still pound millions of dollars of campaigning into our economy.

I prefer capitalism to socialism, personal responsibility to shared responsibility, limited government to large government, free market economy to command economy, and I'm against redistribution of wealth. Government healthcare is a step towards socialism, and I am against it. This does not mean I love the current healthcare system though.

in her book, it takes a village, she says that, essentially, she would like government programs to help parents raising their kids. to put it in a less euphemistic term, she would like the parents to raise their kids how she/government tells them to. that sounds pretty socialist to me.

Here is what I want in a goverment but will never get

*Government helps the people who need help(health care for people who can not afford there own)
*Government leaves people the fuck alone on silly ass issues that do not hurt the country(abortion, gay marriage, weed hell even heroin if you wana do it)
*Spend a shit ton more money on education.
*Protect American jobs from outsourcing(I do not have a clue how you do this but I think spending more money on education is a good start.)

i dont mean to attack you, but how on earth is hillary a centrist? and by centrist im assuming you mean it as she is in the middle. here is an excerpt from her book.

"The individual loses all rights and everything is done in the name of the commonwealth (public) (read - "village"); you are officially the property of the state and not an individual with wants, desires, and needs.
There is only the rich and the commonwealth. If you are not rich, then you are a member of the commonwealth. The needs and wants of the rich come before the needs and wants of the commonwealth. In the commonwealth there are no individuals and no one has any rights whatsoever. All decisions in your behalf are made by the state. Your children are the property of the state and it is decided by the state what they will learn, who will teach them, and what will become of them. As a parent, you have little or no say in what becomes of your children, all decisions are made by the government and you accept or become an enemy of the state. "

That excerpt is useless without context. The Clintons have historically been advocates of the Third Way..."or "radical centre", an economic and political idea that positions itself between democratic socialism and laissez-faire capitalism."

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_way_%28centrism%29

One of the great achievements of the US Republican right has been their success in convincing many Americans that 'liberal' is a dirty word and that centrist politicians are actually left-wing loonies. What is considered left-wing in the US is actually pretty right-to-middle-of-the-road in a world context.

Gotcha.. I was gonna accuse you of being one of those "Shoot those red bastards!" types but thought better of it. :P

@will - that quote is obviously out of context

Martin, do you think the rich (and those born into richness) should get a better standard of education and healthcare than the poor?

He spoke in New Orleans this morning. He's not endorsing anybody - yet- and I didn't catch all of his speech, but he made a point of saying his goal is to push for universal health care for all Americans. Given that Clinton's plan is closer to his than Obama's, I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually endorsed Clinton. Gonna be interesting, esp. when a lot of Edwards voters said Obama was their second choice in exit polls.

I read 40% of Edwards voters were Clinton supporters, 25% Obama and th rest undecided

without redistribution of wealth, the world becomes an ugly ugly place. The simple fact is that once you get ahead, its easier to stay ahead, and the farther you get ahead the easier it gets. It should be clear to anyone who knows anything about history that a poor distribution of wealth creates a very volitile and fragile society. In its starkest form the wealth must be shared atleast enough to appease the masses, to deter a revolt.

So trust me, whether you want to believe it or not, you support redistribution of wealth to some extent.
You-- yes, you-- you're a cunt.
