    Default HU BR q

I was just wondering if the 5% BR rule still applies to dedicated HU sng players? I'm thinking it should be more like 15%. Am I wrong?

Theres quite a bit more variance in HU so I would have a substantially more conservative bankroll than regular sit and go's.

ok so you disagree withwhat i said? I think you may be right..

so you think less than 5%? lets say i had a BR of $5k and I only played HU Sng. What stakes do you think I should be playing? (inc. rake)

    $220 $110 $55 $33 ?

(We are assuming I can beat all of them! :P)

I think it depends if you are comfortable with moving down, but I heard about 15BI+ downswings from winning players.

It's a function of your edge. For lower buy-ins 20BI (5%) is enough, but as you move up players are obv. better meaning your edge (assuming we are still long term winners) over them is lower => lower edge means swings are harder, BR requirements go up, etc, etc.

Regarding your example of $5K Br I would play 100s a little more till like 6K and then take shot at 200s (somewhat tougher but still beatable). This is for standard 'slow' ones. However, since you asked about "$220 $110 $55 $33" instead of "$200 $100 $50 $30" that means TURBOs, right? In that case I would suggest way more BIs since turbos are waaaaaaaaaay more swingy. There are examples of solid 'slow' winners who couldn't even figure out if they are still winners after switching to turbos until they had big sample.

thanks for the advice so far.

to the guy who asked, the "$220 $110 $55 $33" are not turbos, they are "No Blind Increase" games on PS - I prefer these to the regs and I think they're easier to beat (atleast at the $5.50 / $11 BIs).

incase you were interested you start with 50bbs, (1500 stack, perma 15/30 blinds). The longest game I've had so far was about 50mins. (low stakes).

Why do you prefer No Blind Increase SNGs over HU-cash? Theoretically it requires a very similar strategical approach.

No Blinds Increase are fine. Less swings than standard slow ones so you have plenty for 110s and somewhere in the range of 5k - 6k BR I'd take shot at 220s.

Only I don't see why you should not switch to cash. You're already used to (and prefer) deeper stacks. In fact most good players recommend moving to cash when you reach 200s in general and this is where you are now.

So do you think that until you reach 200 u shouldn't play cash?

beat: I lost like 600$ in NL50 HU today
beat: I certainly considered posting into the bad beat forum multiple times
variance: yes I hope it is
    brag: ????

Well, this advice is coming from 2+2 HU forum regs. Most agree that up to NL100 the rake is huge and you should stick to SNGs.
Personally I'm HU cash addict and play nl50 like you, but bear in mind I have a sick RB deal of 60%+ (Ongame).

Most of us have no idea of how severe swings can be in this Ultimate Variance Poker Form: Heads Up Cash. I've seen solid players, regulars, proven winners reporting going through 15 BI downers. So yea, it's quite possible it's just the variance or at least the lion share of your loss (don't forget tilt). If it's gonna make it easier for you just look at what I've been through in my Operation in matter of days

Yeah I was playing way over my bankroll (was 800$ish now 230$) and tilting a little bit but also I could definitely flood the bad beat forum with villains catching 2-outers consistently (of course 200BB deep) its not a big issue, I don't depend on my poker BR, just going to play HUSNG's for a while... :P
By the way its pretty strange that I either have very sick positive variance or very sick negative variance. Like when I played the 16$ 9-man turbo SNG's I won something like 1100$ in 200 games for a ROI of 35%, then hit a 600$ (35 BI) downswing lol
One possible explanation is that I am megatilting a lot and don't even notice it

    Variance is killer

Roll is the only thing to protect against it

I realized this some time ago. I'll probably keep playing sngs until my roll reaches 10k or so

And yesterday, I won about 20+ HU SNG in a row at PLO & HORSE, and then lost 20+ back WTF

The thing is, running bad affects your mind, and what affects your mind affects your play, and what affects your play makes you run worse. Quite a vicious circle
