there are so many different things that you can legitimitely be pissed at the U.S. for doing. this seems kinda weak.

well, if I had more time...oh wait, I just lost an hour...

naw, I'm just pissed that Canada had to follow along like a puppy because our economies are so interlinked, for what is basically a useless exercise that will save very little if any energy but allows some Washington politicians to say they "did something" for energy conservation

We tried that over here in the 60s or something for a couple of years. It caused carnage for our farmers.

No he's bitching about Canada having to come along for the ride on a stupid bill that made no sense, and wasn't even passed in our country.

This seems like a good spot to ask this. Somewhat off-topic, but also somewhat related.

Why is it even necessary to have time zones? Why can't there be a world time that everybody goes by? This seems to be better than having 24 separate, 1 hour time zones, where in some cases those are also broken up by the HALF hour. The obvious drawback (and the only one I can think of, ignoring the problems of actually implimenting it now that we are stuck in our current system) is that no longer could you correlate a certain time of the day as being uniform to where the sun would be worldwide.

Say we took the time in Greenwich and everybody in the world used THAT time. In some spots in the world, the sun would be the highest in the sky at 7am, and on the opposite side of the world it would be 7pm, etc etc. What is wrong with this?

Aviation already does it. I can't imagine moms saying "you be home by fifteen thirty Zulu at the latest mister or you're grounded" though.

what is right about it? i didnt see any good points in there of why anyone would want to do that.

it would just make shit so much more complicated. and also how do you decide who's time to use? im sure everyone would want to use their timezone and not be too willing to switch.

either way you are going to get jet lagged when you fly to india or china or europe.

    stupid.
time zones were developed so that everyone in the world could measure their day with the sun being at its highest point midday. if you travel anywhere in the world, regardless of the body's internal clock, you can associate certain activities with certain times. you know that the sun is up at 12pm and down at midnight etc. no matter where you are in the world. thats easy.
    do the right thing.

which brings up another great point, military time is better than AM and PM. good work.

And while I'm on the rant, the metric system is far, far superior to the awful system of inches and feet and miles and ounces and pounds and gallons and pints and such. WHO THE HELL THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO DO THAT??

fwiw, i think the whole 'no need for time zones' idea is the least convincing idea of the 3, but I still think it would be better my way.
