    Default Bad beat thread

    I'm 25 with a bad back

Once a year since I was in my late teens my back 'goes.' It 'went' yesterday when I was playing road hockey and now I can barely move without yelling and swearing. Lower back, random spasms. My dad spent a week in the hospital for the same reason only at a later age.

Any tips/advice/sympathy would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. my gf just left to pick up some A535 rub and a bottle of rum to help soothe the pain.

    Here are my suggestions:

    1. Breakfast, lunch and dinner in bed compliments of your gf.

    2. You have bottom dibbs on all sexual activities

    3. Laptop for playing cards in bed

    4. Live like a king

OK i didn't have much time earlier when I posted and I see that it wasn't hugely helpful.

Every time people do things like walk and sit down they often do it in a bad way that the body isn't designed for. Do you lean when you are on the computer? Are you leaning now? SIT UP STRAIGHT. That said there's a correct way to sit up straight, and it shouldn't feel to uncomfortable though it may do at first ecause you aren't used to using those muscles.

I was lucky enough as a musician to have Alexander lessons to stop myself doing harm to my back while practicing. I know learning from a book will be different, and I don't know how succesful it would be, but I highly recommend you give it a shot.

I googled the Alexandre technique and thought that classes would be very beneficial, although I'm not going to register. I think that 99% of the problem is posture, so your post was far from not being helpful.

I have been living with back pains for almost 15 years now and the only real thing that always helped me was Osteopathy. I would be very, very careful which streches you are trying to do before you have been properly diagnosed. Some streches are really bad for some injuries.

What also helps is swimming with a floating pad between your thighs so you are not kicking your legs.

Play golf. Seriously. I had lower back problems for several years but they went away when my posture changed and back muscles got strengthened from playing regularly. If you don't play, then practice rolling your pelvis forward, and standing up and sitting up straighter until it becomes habit. And get a lumbar support for your chair/car seat so you don't slouch. Posture is definitely everything.

    Drew, for real.

    1) Stretch the hamstrings.
    2) Tighten the abs
    3) Get a better chair. Sitting is one of the most harmful postures on both lower and middle back as well as shoulders and neck.

the problem is deeper than anybody here expects. if, and it's a big if, the things mentioned in this thread fix the problem then you'll find yourself having other problems down the road because the source of the symptoms aren't addressed.

find a massage practitioner with experience in deep tissue, preferably with active release technique, and maybe even sports medicine and see him and others for the rest of your life. nothing else even comes close to healing body pains

A little WD40 on your joints should do the trick.
  20. #20
^^^^^^ True dat. My daddy taught me at a very young age that WD40 and Duct tape will fix anything. If it moves and it ain't supposed to, use duct tape. If it doesn't move and it is supposed to (your case) use WD40.

Go to Sam's, buy in bulk.

Oh, and that Alexandre thingy looks pretty good also.

<--------- Degenerated discs between the L4 and L5 and L5 and S1. Doctor wanted to do surgery on them 2 years ago. Still playing hockey and working out. Sciatic acts up from time to time. If you back is locking up it's a nerve problem usually. Chiropractic and massage will help alot if done togetherbut you need to loosen up the muscle and tissue long term.
