    Default XTR´s drive to midstakes

So as some of u might have noticed I haven´t been around for a week or two. I took the last days off poker, spend some time with my family, went to the bar every night with my boys, had a great christmas and a lot of fun beside all that.

I didn´t play a single hand to clear my mind and to start out fresh and focused in 08. I reread ToP and Professional NLHE and grabbed NLHE T&P to finish this one too. I bought a datamining/table selection tool for iPoker and started a new DB in PT, mainly b/c I screwed up my old DB when I installed PostgreSQL. It sucks losing 75k hands, but I look at Jan 1st 2008 as a total relaunch, so this could probably be a good thing.

My goal for 2008 is to make it to 2/4 and 3/6 NLHE. As I wrote in my last OP-thread, I´will finish university in the beginning of 09, getting my diploma in business administration and engineering. I have to be rolled for 4/4 NL live at least at the end of the year to keep poker as an attractive hobby.

I cashed out to buy christmas presents for my family and will be starting out with a BR of $5k. I´m playing on iPoker with approx. 35% RB plus reload bonusses and reactivated my party account without rakeback. I haven´t played enough at party yet, but their PartyPoints to cash program and reload bonusses should be giving me something equalling 8-14% RB. If anyone here is playing on Party and knows exactly what rate of RB I can expect, please let me know.

I will be moving up and down in limits with the following BR management plan:

    - $5k regular 0.5/1 both FR and 6max, taking a shot at 1/2 FR when tables are good

    - $6.5k regular 1/2 FR and 0.5/1 6max, taking a shot at 1/2 6max when tables are good

    - $10k regular 1/2 both FR and 6max, taking a shot at 2/4 FR when tables are good

    - $16k regular 1/2 6max and 2/4 FR, taking a shot at 2/4 6max when tables are good

I´m not limiting myself to playing only FR or 6max, mmainly because traffic at FR tables is pretty low at midstakes on working days.

I haven´t had the time yet to put all of my adjustements in words. What I can say so far is:

    - I will be tightening up in EP and therefore look for more opportunities to 3bet in LP

    - I will be playing less tables

    - When I´m asking myself, if I should play or not I will not play. I won´t play tired or tilted or when in a hurry. I will only play when tables are good and I am able to play my A-game. If one of these conditions doesnt apply I will go out running, go to the gym or have sex. I expect this adjustement to have the biggest impact on my game. I know I have a tilt problem, and nothing tilts me more than playing like a idiot.

    - I will post a sessions biggest winners/losers no matter what. I will go through PT after a session and look at my hands and stats and my opponents. I will make helpful player notes.

OP starts on Jan 1st 2008.[/list]

played a tiny session FR today for a nice $80 profit. Nothing big happened, cards made it a small pot session. Tangled with shorties a lot, stacked some of them, doubled others up....geez I wish there was more traffic on full stack only tables. I wont play a lot the next days, I´m ill and until now it has been getting worse and worse, today I wasn´t able to stay focused for more than 1 1/2 hrs and I have a gigantic headache.

    Todays hands are quite unspectacular

a´ight, another day in shortieland. Played 700 hands this afternoon. I´m ill and can´t go to class, neither can I do sports or date girls or do anything outside my appartement, so I guess I´ll be grinding. Again, nothing spectacular happened and I didn´t think/study poker much at all. Here are recent sessions hands:

Pulling off spewy moves is still probably one of my biggest leaks. I made some moves today I like to hear others opinions to. If these hands might look trivial to you, let me know. I just seem to judge my moves extremely result oriented, like when it works I pwn, when it doesnt the others are donkeys or something.

#1 Villian is 19/7 and weak postflop. I wouldn´t play like this against a thinking player who knows I´ll raise Axdd on this flop

Yo XTR, you are based in Germany, right?

Is it true they banned poker there too? Or have I (hopefully) been misinformed?

@Jack: Ya, I´m in Germany. Gambling itself is illegal here, aside from state controlled casinos. Onlinepoker isn´t banned, but isnt allowed either, its sort of tolerated. There are rumours gov wants to ban online gambling, but its practically impossible to lock the poker sites.

Session 2 today - yay yay, feels good to run hot after losing/breaking even for 35k hands.

#4 Villian is a known 10/6 16-tabler, non-thinking and static. His flop range is 66-88, TT, JJ, maybe QQ. He´s dumb enough to bet JJ/QQ on the river, tho I´d have a hard time calling

#5 Villian is an unknown TAG. He´s the villian in hand #2, I had him on 4 tables and he didnt get out of line once. Checking the flop was probably bad. On river I was planning to call any reasonable bet, but he insta pushed what I usually read as JJ trying to make up missed value. I´m getting 2.1:1 and am splitting at best me thinks

    Session 1 today -

I´m still ill and have nothing to do but grinding. Spend 2 hrs at 100NL 6max for a huge $180 profit. I played some good poker, but that´s easily said when u run hot. I didn´t spew around too much, that makes me proud of myself

    We have the following options:
    a- 4bet shove flop
    b- call/lead turn+river 2/3ish
c- call and go for a crai on turn

I´d probably go for option a, but I´ve found it hard to calculate each options eV with villians draws/our redraw.

    Session 2 - full ring

Tables were very soft tonight, I haven´t been in too many sick spots and didn´t make huge mistakes. Inspired by wufwugy I´m dumping 22-55 UTG and UTG+1 for a sample of 20k hands. Its not a question, that playing these in EP is marginal at best, but playing them profitable (if possible) requires great hand reading skills and excellent postflop skills. Neither am I a good hand reader nor do I play optimal postflop, so I guess it´s a good thing to dump these and maybe start playing them later, when my hand reading improved and the opposition becomes a bit more predictable. I´m curious if we could get a large enough sample together to see, if it could ever be profitable to play small pp´s in EP. So far I can say, that I don´t feel like I´m missing a lot, but I´m avoiding many situations where I had the chance to make a mistake/spew chips.

My plan to tighten up in EP and therefore look for more opportunities to 3bet IP/from the blinds worked well. I´ve discovered the great secret of poker, that I shouldn´t adjust actions but ranges, meaning that I ain´t 3betting anymore "b/c he´s raising wide otb" but widen my range and stick to it. Pretty trivial, but it took me years to completely understand this.

    + $45
    BR $5510

I´ve already posted a hand in the full ring forum, here are more from tonights hands:

#1 Biggest pot won: Button is 18/9 and thinking. We have a long history and trying to play each other as often as possible. He views me probably as thinking and slightly spewy TAG, his flop raise could be anything from mid pp´s, fd´s, sets or queens.

    #2 Biggest pot lost:

Thats he hand I posted in the full ring forum. BB is a station and called down with 2nd pr before. He´s passive and could show up with a random 9 as well as JT/QJ/AJ, why I decided to value the river. In retrospective I may have folded to the river c/r, but it didnt make any sense to me and getting like 4:1 I was commited anyway, right?

Just a general question. Why do you raise so little LP after limpers? Is it to keep the SPR low?
On hand #3 can you put villain hand only on 65/55 or 66? Can't you put AQo?
What was his aggression level on turn/flop?

These small raises with big hands are just to mix it up. I usually raise to 4BB+1BB for each limper with a wide range and make these mini raises only with AXs-type hands which dont mind many callers.

Hand #3 is very read dependant. Opponent is 16-tabling and running 10.5/6 for a long time, we´re sharing the tables for nearly 4 months. He´s one of iPokers rakeback pro´s who play horrible poker and grind out 2BB/100 with RB and FPP races. He´s non-thinking and static and he´s playing this exclusively with 66/55, AQ would have been a raise preflop, he only limp/calls 44-JJ UTG

a´ight, back from the live game. Played a 15euro 24 man tourney, busted out 11th. I had a solid chip lead, but then I had to give up on a couple of blind steals and were down to 13k. At blinds 1k/2k I called a 4k shove in the BB w/ AK and his JJ held up, two orbits later I´m down to 6k in the BB and button moves in. I call w/ 33, his TT takes it home. gg

    On this afternoons session:

I dropped $160 of which one $100 stack was unecessary. See here:

I 3bet CO 4 or 5 times before. He insta check-minraised and I decide to spew off my stack. I suck, nh CO

    Session #2:

Wow. Night session was sick, tables were crazy and I swung like 5 BI or so but fortunately managed to finish $140 in the green

    BR $5510

I´ve been nitty as hell 11/9/5, but table conditions rewarded my play. No need to get fancy when 83s and other crap shows up in 3bet pots (no joke, prove follows). I dont know who quoted "Its okay to play ur cards face up, when the opposition is blind", tonight was the best example.

I planned to talk about squeezing, which is totally new to me and I feel like I´m the only on at iPoker´s 100NL full ring tables who´s heard of it, but most attempts to squeeze were actually value raises. I´ll get back to that, when tables are filled with ppl who can lay down A3s and shit.

Lets start with my biggest winners:

#1 Both villians are idiots, I´m flipping against a range of TP´s/JJ, straight and flushdraws and made straights. Pay attention to UTG

While I´m scanning the tables for todays 6max session I´m gonna write about squeeze plays on full ring tables. For most ppl here probably a trivial topic, for me it´s quite new. We´ve all read the chapter in HOH1 where Dan squezes with T4 or something, but he talks about tourney´s and doesn´t go too far into detail. Beside that, it´s a topic where I really think about it myself and becoming a thinking player is my ultimate goal.

I haven´t searched the forums nor the web for articles about it, so the following content is potentially worthless.

    We´re assuming a 100NL full ring table, active players w/ 100BB stacks.

There´s a raise from MP1, std TAG with PFR >8, to 4BB and one or two caller in HJ/CO/BTN with VPIP>18.

We´re OTB/SB/BB. I´m treating those 3 position the same way for a simple reason: If we 3bet OTB opponent will assign a wider range to us, but can´t open up too much, b/c he will be oop. If we 3bet from the blinds, villian may open up a bit, b/c he will have postion on us, but cant open up too much, b/c 3bet ranges from the blinds are usually pretty tight.

MP1´s opening range is something like 66+, AJs+, AQo+, KQs for a total of 94 combinations

HJ/CO/BTN´s calling range is 22-TT, 78s+, JTo-KQo, ATs-AJs, AQo for a total of 134 combinations, assuming he´d 3bet anything above that range himself

Our standard 3betting range is, depending on style, JJ+, AK, AQs, which has 56% equity against MP1´s range.

Now, with two caller, there´s 13.5BB in the pot and we raise to 16BB, laying 2.5:1 immediate and 8:1 implied odds, we probably fold out anything but JJ+, AK and AQs.
Note that these hands aren´t in our callers ranges, we assume our HJ/CO/BTN aren´t prone to slowplay premiums preflop.

This means, we fold out 50 combinations or 53% of MP1´s hands for an immediate profit of 13.5BB. The remaining 47% villian calls/raises with a range against which our standard range has 50% equity.

For the sake of simplicity we ignore the times where one caller overcalls our 3bet and changes our equity drastically. (an overcaller with 55-77, JTs has 25% equity. I love pstove)

Let´s see how far we can expand our range to make our 3bet 0ev:

We assume MP1 4bets KK+,12 of the remaining 44 combinations or 12.7% of his total hands, leaving 34.3% where he calls w/ JJ-QQ, AK,AQs.

In case villian 4bets we obv shove KK+ for 0eV and fold anything else for a net loss of 16BB

If MP1 calls, we see a flop with a pot of (16+16+4+4+1.5)BB = 41.5BB against a range of JJ-QQ, AK, AQs

    eV = 0.53*13.5BB - 0.127*16BB + 0.343*X*41.5 (!)= 0; where "X" is our equity if called

(I ignore bets on subsequent rounds, b/c it´s getting too complicated and my head is already asploding)

    --> eV = .53*13.5BB - .127*16BB + .343*X*41.5BB (!)= 0

    5.123 = 14.2345X

    X = .36 or 36%

Means our 3betting range needs 36% equity if called to let us break even on this squeeze.

    Now play around with Pstove:

    39% equity

Well, that´s it so far. I´m gonna ask around if one of our math guys can go through this and give me shit if my math wrong, if not, I´ll post this in the full ring forum and hopefully start a discussion on this topic.

    Session 2 - full ring

    + $170
    BR $5730

Tables were soft, not too much trouble. Interesting hands were against a regular TAG, who decided to donkbet a ton in raised/3bet pots. I gave him credit for a smart set, a friend of mine told, that he´s doing that shit frequently. Gotta think, how I should be adjusting to these donkbets followed by 3bet calls on flop. See hands (I´ll post them in fr forum as well)

Well, no poker for me yesterday. I didn´t feel confident and tables weren´t inviting so I decided to ride BMX and watch some TV after that. TV brought "The Island" and man...I didn´t know Scarlett Johanson can be so hot

I´m going to the gym now and may have the time to put in a tiny session of 100NL 6max this afternoon. I´m out this evening to rock a sick wallride I found last night and will hopefully come back without broken bones, so I can put in another session of full ring tonight.

much appreciated. 1) I was fighting back to a possible steal, 6) agree

Todays session....Good news first, I´ve made the sick wallride I found yesterday. Didn´t get enough speed to pull it really high, but it was fun

    Poker

Played 100NL full ring and dropped $90. After being tight the days before I ran 18/16/7 and it was sooooo fun. , played an incredible bad guy HU and lost $360 for a net loss of $450. The I dude I played HU put me on wild monkey tilt I must admit.

I don't play much FR, but here's my take on those:
Hand #1, Shit happened. Sucks to share all the J's and still flop 2pr. No shame there. You're ahead often enough and the flop is drawy. Top 2 is not a spew.
Hand #2, playing draws OOP sux. I would fold pre since you are mainly playing for your draws here to any reasonable caller. 2 things about draws OOP: 1)Hard to get paid after the draw completes. 2)Put in too many difficult spots w/ no free cards available.
Hand #3, I think the river is b/f unless you have a read that he'll play that passively & push with a worse 2pr.
Hand #4, Nice. I wish I made more strong plays like this. How often are you getting looked up by AQ here?
    Hand #5, Standard.
Hand #6, Fold pre, or fold flop. He wants a raise w/ that tiny bet.
I'm not going to comment on HU play since it is so read dependent and dynamic. Although it seems you might have been over aggro and he trapped you a bit.

I'll start commenting more and maybe finally post my own blog that I have threatened to do for a year. Then you can stop by and comment on my play. Good luck XTR, Oh and nice wall ride.
Playing live . . . thanks alot Bin Laden.

Thx for the feedback SillyString! Your comments are always much appreciated!

As for #4, this isn´t standard for me without reads, but opponent was incredibly weak, which made me try to push him off his AQ/AJ. In fact he tanked, folded and typed "33 nh sucker"

Todays session was horrible, -$320, which means in the red for this month so far.

    BR $4960

I probably didn´t play my a game, I missed opportunities to steal and to value good. Let´s look at the hands

#1 Villian is unknown. He is unlikely to have hit this flop, but so are we and he won´t fold his 77-TT, Jx. C/c turn is the better play.

#2 Is more interesting. Villian is a 20/8/6.6 reg with whom I have some history (see the donkbet-thread in full ring forum or above). My Att.to steal was 34% so we can assume he´s defending somewhat light here 77+, AQo+, AJs+, KQ, QJs. His cbet is quite large and indicates he wants me to fold, weighing (sp?) his range towards 88,99,JJ,QQ,QJ. Now comes the part where I may be outthinking myself or overestimating my opponent, but my shoving range contains a lot more draws than locks and therefore push>>call

#3 Small sample, villian calls wide preflop and seems to an suboptimal player. He minraises flop with AJ,KJ,QJ,JT,JJ,77,66,76 against which I have 40% equity. Assuming he folds some weak J´s this is marginal, but okay I guess.

#4 This guy is a total station 52/7/0.7, this hand occured within the first two orbits no assume no reads here. Cbetting flop is std, turn gives us 15 outs to the nuts so checking is out of the question. River is questionable, at first I thought I´d fold out hearts, then I figured that I have some sd value against hearts, now I´m editing this the 3rd time, since the T makes a huge part of his range.

Just finished a 100NL 6max session on Party for a net loss of $360

ran 20/18/4.6 and cold like a polarbear. Against no-FE opposition I will consider tightening up again.

#1 First hand is plain donkish, I just set up my tables and didnt really pay attention

came home from class, after rankine and carnot cycles in powerplants it´s time to study some poker

I played 1.2k hands of 100NL full ring last night for a net profit of $180 running 15/13/3.7

#1 SB is a taggish regular who´s pretty good postflop for these tables. I suppose he respects me somewhat, it seems like he´s avoiding big confrontations against me without strong hands. I didnt 4bet to keep QQ/JJ/AK/AQ in the hand.

i reckon on the last hand you neednt raise so much on the turn.

Raised big with ISF´s thoughts about range manipulation in mind, intending to make him fold diamonds and shove 99/66/33, especially since his minbet screams "fd"

Let´s go back to yesterdays session. I did okay and ran okay. Hit some big hands but lost millions of $20 flips against shorties

#4 Ugly things do happen all the time, but this time it´s my fault. Made the huge mistake to give him spades as the biggest part of his range, which was quite stupid even without seeing the result. too many Aces in an 42/6´s range to fuck this hand up by not raising turn.

Hand #1, played perfect, especially in position.

Hand #2, Played well with read.

Hand #3, Is this really a raise in UTG+1 in a 7 handed game? Small PF raise may be exploitable. Please take idiot's money after the turn. He may call more on river if really loose passive. y/n/m?

Hand #4, Turn bet is suspect if in position. Flop caller, and turn completed FD. I b/f this OOP, but check turn behind and call reasonable river IP. I would give up value from QJ+ to avoid paying off FD or trips.

Hand #5, I do the same vs. a loose player that I don't have much read on. The min bet reeks of a drawing hand. Again though is raising A9s in EP profitable in full ring? I would rather cut that holding and raise a wider range in LP if you need to keep your stats up.
Playing live . . . thanks alot Bin Laden.

I dont get it!! why would you want a FD to fold or any hand your beat and only let hands you lose to stay in. doenst make sense, your losing a ton of value this way and opp play better vs you.

thx for the feedback. Took me a second to realize you were referring to my second last post

to #3 the old "I´m mixing it up"-story Given his passiveness I figured a TP hand to be his most likely hand and therefore bet smallish.

to #4 checking turn gives up too much value, since he could have SD´s as well. I believe b/f river wouldn´t be a mistake

to #5 Raising A9s in EP is definetly not the most profitable play but it isn´t all that bad either on a table with one sucker and 8 nits who fold too much and 3bet QQ+, AK exclusively.

    End session #1 : 925 hands 100NL 6max on Party.

    +$300
    BR $5470

Ran hot, hit well and made only medium mistakes/bad plays, no silly stack-off this time.

#1 42/3/0.6, I thought about checking behind river, then I saw the post-it note I put on my monitor saying "Get value, sucker!" and bet. Checking behind against this guy would be retarded.

Happy friday! finished session #2: 1k hands on iPoker 100NL full ring for a beautiful profit of §230, totalling +$530 for tonight. Poker is so EZ bitches

    BR $5700

Before I go through hands some random thoughts.

DaGOAT´s straightforward comments on that A9s hand helped me even more than he or I could expect at first. It made me realize, that I did the same mistake I already did before when it came to blind defense, squeezing, 3betting light and other semi-advanced concepts:

I try to apply a new concept and two things happen: I do something, just to do it. I do not adjust a range or choose the appropiate situation, but just adjust actions and disregard basic concepts I learned a year ago. Sometimes I feel like my mind is a rack with limited storage room and for every new concept I try to apply something in the back is sorted out. I put a "Get value, sucker!" post-it note on my monitor now.

Today´s session weren´t much exciting besides recovering a good part of my BR. 6max session went like crazy, I had a table with av VPIP>40% and av PFR <8. So sick, but high variance and u can expect to get kingjacked once a night.

iPoker full ring was pretty standard for a friday night. Couple of regular nits and huge donks spread all over the tables.

I talked to one of my fellow iPoker nits from Latvia ( place to go, beautiful girls whereever u go ) who also said that iPoker´s 200NL fr is dying. iPoker´s loyalty programs benefits everyone who stupidly grinds along. Nearly every skin runs a fpp-race, most rakeback affiliates do and several skins add "most hands"-races.

Every cashback is based on your fpp´s, which means you get rb when u were dealt cards and not from what u have contributed. This leads to today´s perverted situation, where -0.7ptBB/100 shortstacks make roughly 2.2k/month simply by putting in way over 150k hands. I believe it was NOIQ who started the additional "most hands played" race, the leader after 14hrs already put in 16k hands. Whats your max hands/day Mr.Spoon? Friends of mine moved up to 200NL fr, one of them switched to Stars going for SNE now, two switched to 6max.

There was a discussion on 2+2 recently covering that topic, one guy mined the 200NL tables for 3 weeks and the av VPIP dropped to 16.x% if I remember it right, and its still dropping. It isn´t hard at all to play these tables, but its neither juicy. Now you´d say "Hey, 12/7´s are easily exploitable" and you´re right, but there´s not much to exploit against 30% <40BB shortstacks. Man, I´m glad to find 9 tables w/ av 450BB in play.

To cut a long story short, IPN 200NL sucks so bad, that even 2+2 regulars consider going to Stars or FullTilt.

On tonights fr session: I ran goot. tables were loose, I nitted around 13/11/3.52 and made profit, surprisingly with a w$@SD below my av 50%.
I slowed down on flops oop against shortstacks and gave them more opportunities to bluff at ragged flops and therefore c/red a ton with good results. I haven´t been into trouble, I´m wondering if it´s the 2% vpip oop that makes life this easy.

#1 Crazy hands first, no stats, 2nd orbit. Villian has open shoved 3/4 of his hands preflop so far, got his stack by sucking out on A7o w/ 34o.

I´ve bn super nitty 16/13/3.3, I think there´s no point in loosening up as long as I get my pay off regardless of my stats. Been into a few awkward spots, gotta reread ISF´s comments on floating in 3bet pots

#3 crazy. Opponent sat down a couple of hands ago. As he went nuts on flop I figured his most likely holding to be a hand, that doesnt want to see another heart fall, like 2pr/set/weak flush. Possible spew, but I said it before, i hate giving credit for flopped flushes

    Hey people,

quick update after finishing 1.3k hands of 100NL full ring.

    + $50
    BR $5860

Poker bored me, it wasn´t fun playing tonight. I´m tired and will rather have a couple of mango-maracuja smoothies with vodka instead of analyzing hands, lets do this on monday.

Tomorrow I´ll be out some big mountain riding at a bikepark not far from here. Tomorrow night is reserved for a girl I met this week....time to get laid, wish me luck

Thanks for the support Unfortunately I had to cancel my date

Riding with the boys was so fun, the track was extremely muddy and wet and was actually more like a 5 minutes lasting powerslide One of the youngsters took the huge road gap for the smallish step down two corners ahead and broke his left wrist. We had to take him to the hospital and came home too late around 9pm, why I couldn´t meet blondie.

I´m gonna include some more pictures, to make this OP more attractive

On Saturdays full ring session: Like I said earlier, grinding bored me on Saturday. I didn´t run bad, nor had I bad seats or tough opponents or took brutal beats. It simply wasn´t fun and I started drinking, fortunately I closed tables before I could have done something stupid. Let´s have a look at the hands:

#1 Villian is a 35/12 shortstacker who plays for entertainment. Actually a cool guy, this hand is nothing but a cooler at the end, I had "auto post blinds" already disabled.

#2 No reads here. I was lost putting him on a range, he has sets, FD´s, 78 and A9, depending on his style TT, 77 and 88. Bet turn to get a better idea of where I´m at and given his weakness there I discounted sets. 78 got there on river, nonetheless his bet has to be a mised fd only one in 10 times to look him up.

#3 Villian is 12/6/2.1. Preflop is close getting slightly better than 8:1 implied, but a nit limp/raising has pretty much always KK+. Surpisingly he folded turn with like 30 behind, didn´t expect him to be playing back at me w/ junk.

    Aloha peoples,

tonight I had some poker, 1.3k hands 100NL fr It was fun again and I did really well. Unfortunately I got coolered once and played a second time so this session ended $15 in the red

    BR $5845

    Check out the hands

#1 Villian is a 13/7/4.2 regular, he probably views me as TAG, pretty fast postflop. He doesn´t raise sets on flop usually ( see hand #2 which occured 10 min earlier at the same table), so I figured his most likely range to be 66-TT, 44, AhQh, AhJh, KhQh. I´m quite not sure, if shoving is the optimal play, but I´d shove my FD´s and AK here as well, I don´t know if he´s smart enough to know that tho

Spend the afternoon in the library doing some research for my economics seminar and while browsing the web I stumbled across this article http://www.econlib.org/library/Enc/GameTheory.html. I´ll post this in BC as well, since it´s great article and is very helpful to see what gt is all about and why it´s so important for us. Since I haven´t spend much time on this topic so far I´m going to do so the next days. I´ll be absorbing economic books anyway and I feel like I have a better motivation/work ethic when I´m learning something I can apply later or what will help improving my game.

Again no poker for me. a friend of mine celebrated her birthday yesterday and I got wasted. She had some traditional drink, beer mixed with doppelkorn, which is a clear liquor with 40%...I´m soooo hung over that playing poker would be -----eV.

Received a $500 Bonus on iPoker, from what I have to withdraw $400 to pay for taxes and insurance of my car next month.

#5 Now this one is the only interesting hand (beside the stupid spew that´s still to come ) Against a line this strong I usually fold overpairs, since I´m ahead like never. I continued, b/c villian is the same guy that slowplayed his aces against my QQ in hand #1 from Jan 22th and given deep stacks I figured to have some equity vs sets. His flop raise is too big for a set, he knows that my range is still wider than average and that I can fold an overpair facing enourmous strength, weighing his range towards overpairs himself. I actually put him on AA (unlikely) or KK/QQ. Planned to lead a non K/Q river.

    2.2k hands @100NL fr, +$275

    BR $6680 weeeeee!

Following my BRM plan I made at the beginning I should now be playing 1/2FR regularly and be shotting 1/2 6max on occasion. I´ll be staying at 0.5/1 until the end of the month and then overthink my BRM plan again for the following reasons:

    - I´m curious if I can maintain a winrate >2.5ptBB/100 over a solid sample, until OP start I was 1.8 longterm

    - I dont wanna switch sites, since I have a good deal at CDPoker and like the software, but iPoker 1/2 FR is contaminated with rakeback- and FPP-pros.

    - I´m not confident in my 6max game. I could probably beat 100NL FR, but I doubt I could do a bigger winrate than at FR. I´m not ready for 1/2 6max yet

    - I´d like to have a somewhat deeper BR to avoid tilting/scared money issues. My biggest improvement this month was to learn to really think things through before I act, to strictly concentrate on ranges and ev´s, not being results oriented and to always look ahead and not letting yesterdays beats phase me. If you scroll up you´ll see that I went on wild 3 BI monkeytilt once, but I did not get in this chronic semi-tilt state of mind that cost me so much moniez in the past.

    - I have exams and 3 weeks of business training in Feb/March and will therefore not have the time to study the game in depth. I don´t want to advance in limits without advancing as a player. This somewhat correlates with tilting issues, when the next downswings hits at 1/2 and I´m stressed the tilting monster may come out again.

On todays session: I had a brutal start, getting stacked twice with set over set and one rivered boat over boat. Again I ran nittish 13/11/4, I tightened up in EP due to tons of shortstacks, still I´m the only regular player with a two-digit PFR. Att.2 steal was 25%, which is okay I guess and should be near optimal for todays table conditions. I´m looking for opportunities to squeeze for the past 3 weeks and did okay, funny side note: none of the regs has adjusted yet.

#1 SB is 13/8/3 regular, he stacked me earlier with the mentioned boat over boat, no history beside that. My image is solid, river bluff raises are very uncommon and I doubt he´s betting weak to induce a raise. I´m basically turning my hand into a bluff here, since I´m repping Kx/QJ and I have no idea if its a good play.

#6 This one is interesting. BTN is 15/6/2.1 semi reg, haven´t played him for a while. He´s kinda tricky, I folded to two possible floats before. I had a hard time putting him on a hand, he could have KQ, JJ-TT, 88, 22 and spades. KQ/88/22 raise flop a large % of the time, so he´s most likely to hold spades or tries to rep them w/ 2nd pair. C/c or b/f river?

    Poker yesterday:

Session#1 6max: 4tabled 100NL sh at Party for +$150 and I´m finally in the green on party´s sh tables for this month. Ran 20/16 and played solid poker.

#1 I was lost. No solid reads yet. UTG crai came really unexpected, since it didnt make sense to me. What hands are going for a c/r on such a drawy board? Getting 2:1 I called, figuring to have 9-12 outs

#2 CO is 42/6/1.8, calling tons of flops IP vs me and betting any turn when checked to. I already c/r´ed him twice and he gave up. It´s probably not the best play in a vacuum, but given our history he must give me lots of weak holdings, since I started defending vs his floats with this line. Checking river sucks.

#4 MP2 is 24/17/1.7, MP3 is unknown 19/6/2. I´ve been 3betting MP2 a ton the last days, especially with a caller I squeezed a lot. Both started calling lighter, I showed down 77 vs 66 when MP2 and I checked thru a 3bet pot and gave up with a missed AQ. Flop check to rep a missed mid pp and to extract a bet from TT/JJ/88. Turn bet is huge, maybe too big for value bet and since my hand is underrepped I had to shove.

wow. last nights full ring session went like crazy. idk why, but suddenly the nits were bluffing the shit out of me. First losing session, where I werent outflopped but outplayed by players who had never got out of line/caught. I was stunned and quit before I could spew more moniez away, net loss $70 coz I made my biggest pot for this month as well.

Since being played felt so bad, my neighbour, who dropped like 4BI at 1/2, and I decided to get drunk fast and killed a bottle of vodka within an hour and then started to play $3 HellKat SNG´s on Party. These are sooooooooooooo fun! For those of u who havent heard of it, HellKats have a set time limit, when the time runs out first 3 in chips are paid. Gotta think about an adequate strategy to beat those, until now I´ll play them to spew around when I´m wasted lost about $20 there, tho I finished a couple ITM.

    BR $6520

#1 Villian is 14/11/3 who dropped back down to 100NL after playing 1/2 and 2/4 regularly. His range is something like AQ+, clubs, 88,99. I think my line okay repping 9x/88/A9 folding out anything but boats. Unfortunately he had it this time

    On yesterdays session:

800 hands of 100NL 6max for a net loss of $300, received $180 RB on IPN,

    BR $6400

Not a nice end of the month but w/e. Tried iPoker 6max at first, but the tables there were horrible nitty and filled with shortstacks. Went over to Party and found 4 tables with at least one 40/4 type of guy, but had no chance to pull a profit. I think I played pretty well, especially since the TAGs stay out of each others way as long as there´s a donator in the middle. Tho it sucks to pay the donk I´m fine with my decisions, got my money in good.

    #1 UTG+1 ran 90/11/1.8 for 120 hands, CO is 34/22/0.8 over 150. I´m happy that I got it in.

    Achievements this month:

    - I took care of this OP and therefore went thru PT and looked at my hands after every session
    - No huge tilt affiars beside one HU session (doesnt show up in pt as HU, since it was a new 6max table)
    - I thought poker
    - My approach to this game has totally changed. I´m looking forward after every session, losing streaks dont phase me all that much anymore, coz I can either indentify them as coolers or mistakes I learned from

    Goals for Feb:
    - Continue beating 100NL fr, start beating 100NL 6max
    - Work on my adjustements and player reading. playing less tables and thinking about my actions I´ve found myself in loads of situations, where I couldn´t determine on which level opponent is thinking and make bad plays caused by misjudging (is this a word??) his level of thinking. I´m outthinking myself frequently.

I seem to have the exact same problem determining what level my opponent is thinking on as well. I also have a tendency to get too fancy trying to level an opponent who may not be thinking very deep. Oh well, I'm learning as I go.
As for you play, Hand #1 is fine.
#2 I often call IP and play the flop. OOP I like to get it in pre and let the chips fall where they may. If I think he has a read that I'm 3betting light I especially like to play a flop cause he'll stack off lighter than usual. Against an unknown I don't mind the pre-push though.
#3, Raise flop more to make later streets easier to play. His stack size makes it hard for you on a bad turn card. I like the b/f line here, but you can't fold to his short ass push over. I plan to see A9 or A3 here alot as well as plenty of bluffy air.

You and I seem to be at similar stages in bankroll and poker development right now. I sure wish I had your poker bonuses and rakeback to draw off of, but alas I play in the US. $600 in a month is awesome, though mine would be less since I can only get about 15K-18K hands in per month.
Congrats on a good month developmentally and a decent month with poker/variance. From hands you posted the win rate will certainly come up in the next month or two.

Yea, leveling myself is probably a huge leak. I went thru my last 10k hands in poker ev and, surprise surprise, the vast majority of pots lost in terms of sklansky bucks were against unknowns whom I read wrong. Guess I´m gonna change my default approach to this sort of situation from "not giving anyone credit until proven otherwise" to "give them credit until they happen to disqualify themselves or I get a solid read" and see how it works out.

Played a session of 3k hands at 100NL fr yesterday for +$60

    BR $6586

I didn´t run all that good and the tables were more taggy than usual, making it possible to play 17/14/3.5 fun poker.

#1 Villian appeared to be stupid within the 2.5 orbits since I sat down, seing tons of flops and taking KJo once too far.

    Weeeeee peoples!
Tonight was the night u catch once a month where all the pieces fit together. Deep stacked donks, running good and, most important, making non-standard plays in the right moment. Finished +$615 pushing my BR to

    BR $7201

I started off like crazy monkey wild and suddenly dropped almost one BI but got that back when regs started playing back at me

#1 Villian is 13/8 regular against whom my image is apeshit. I´ve been 3betting him quite light, coz Im a monkey. He 4bet shoved on me twice before at another table and I gave up instantly

    BTN lost -$3.00

Later on I switched gears and ran like 12/10/3.3, mainly because tables were were extremely stationy and regular players began to make kinda loose calls vs me.

#2 Non-standard. BTN is 8/3, his 3betting range is QQ+, AK, AQ at best. 4betting would have folded out anything but KK, so I decided to flat his raise. Happened at the end of the session, where he views me as somewhat TAG (if he even pays attention to it)

#3 No.3 occured after 3 or 4 orbits. It´s probably the hand, where I lost any respect. UTG+1 is 23/17, CO 22/6 which made this a great opportunity to squeeze. I had no clue, what CO could have had and I felt there was a good chance he´s simply annoyed of me raising him off his limp/calls. W/e, even vs 66-JJ, AJ, AQ I´m a 2:1 dog making this call still -EV in a vacuum.

    feb 3rd 2008:

Climbing a mountain in the early morning was soooooo sick. We started at 4:30am and it took us like two hrs until we reached the peak at 1200 above sl, right on time to see the sun rise. It was awesome, I havent seen a sunrise for 5yrs. as promised, more picks to keep my interested readers entertained

    Poker:
2.6k hands of 100NL fr for a net of +$330 and I bought a datamining- and tableselection tool for Party for $30

    BR $7501

I can´t deny that I´ve been running quite good lately, but I feel like my game has improved since the new year started. I´m fully confident in beating 100NL full ring and have come to a point, where I can play any table aviable on iPoker, I don´t run into player anymore who cause me trouble. Next goal is to improve in 3bet pots, where I´m probably leaking. That should be fixed before I move up.

geez, I really fucked things up yesterday. Violating my new rule, I grinded just for the sake of grinding, unfocused/distracted and sloppy. Instead of browsing the web/jacking off/calling girls/getting drunk I decided to burn my hard earned moniez
AND IT FUCKING MAKES ME SICK!!!!!

Walking home from the gym this afternoon I thought about that poker shit and why last night went so wrong and why I can´t beat this fucking limit for more than 2.1BB/100 long term. There are a couple of reasons I destilled from all the thoughts I had. Beside that I´m a bad player it´s simply the lack of discipline and emotional stability. It´s the sessions I play to get my mind clear. Sometimes after a long day when the fucking world fucks me up I set up 14-tables and grind along, only to prevent my mind from thinking about stuff thats fucking annoying me/bothering me.
Yea, why not doing sports instead? Because I already spend 3 days a week at the gym for like 2 - 3 hrs and go out running for 1 - 1.5 hrs the days in between.
Fuck me, I need to stop this. The sloppy play syndrome is probably caused by playing overrolled quite often. I got so used to blowing $100, since I "blew" it a hundred times when I was ahead, that I somewhat lost the feeling for the moniez at the table. Dont get me wrong, I want to win as bad as everybody else (maybe too bad sometimes) and I fucking hate losing, but when I´m in bad mood I kinda think "fuck you, I´ll get it back u´re bad fuck u blah blah" and suddenly lose focus on all that long term thingy.

To fix this I´m gonna use the word "fuck" as often as possible tonight and will jump into 1/2NL now. Lets see if more money at risk will make me a more disciplined player. I´m still healthy rolled for 1/2 but IF I become scared money I´ll drop back, IF I continue to spew money all over the place, I´ll drop back down.

On last session itself: I dropped $330. I was grinding along and breaking even until this fucking fuck hand occured

Step back and think about what you would tell someone else if they were in the same situation, and try to use it on yourself. You give good advice, and you know what you should do. Variance is a bitch.

Thanks for the support. I need it more than ever before after a small session at 1/2. I actually did what I would tell others to do ( I won´t tell them to move up, but thats another story) and played less tables and quit when I lost focus/emotional stability.

200NL went well, I weren´t sloppy and played not my best but definetly a good game. 200NL tabkes are pretty much like 100NL with >35% shortstacks <30BB, standard 14/6 nits and the occasional donk. Didn´t make any non-standards with no strong reads on anyone yet. I lost $230 and quit after hand #3

I´m still healthy rolled for 1/2 but IF I become scared money I´ll drop back, IF I continue to spew money all over the place, I´ll drop back down.

meh, I did it for a reason. I didnt move up to recover losses or because "these 100NL donks put beats on me". I decided to after thinking about it deeply. I didnt jump into 1/2 for any tilty reason.

It was one of our countless BRM threads that made me draw the conclusion moving up now will be +eV. I don´t remember who posted it, but the threads tenor was like "playing overrolled indicates that u´re kinda risk prone".
I struggled making quality decisions and played sloppy or, in other words, didn´t consider the risks I took objectively.

Like I said, Im healthy rolled, so there´s no danger of going busto and I beat 100NL for >2BB/100 for 4 months or so. I´d have moved up anyway and now I did it with the additional benefit of getting my feet back on the ground and having respect for game/oppostion again.

And I´ve found my inner peace. I´m doing well. Took beats and didn´t tilt or quit before I could do so. I´m eager to play and am focused, there´s so much more information now to absorbe, so many unknown regnittags I need to get a read on and it´s interesting to observe how my stress level reacts to double sized pots (+ and -). My hands became wet when over $600 moved to my seat, poker is exciting again and I´m totally fine with my decision. If things wont work out I can drop down everytime.

One comment on last nights hands: #2 was probably the most retarded misclick I made this month. I already pulled the sliderbar to the right and then hit call accidentially.

1.2k hands at 200NL for a net profit of $260 yay yay

    BR $7672

Tonights session went like ok. To be honest, I didn´t play all that much thinking poker, but it wasn´t necessary anyway. Found a 50/5 type of guy at most tables and spend the most time testing the waters against dudes who seemed to be regular players. I´ve played one hand horribly, talking myself into this stupid play test him. Shame on me.

Funny I can´t see your post in the thread, but in the "topic review" below

I´m playing on iPoker. To be honest, I haven´t encountered any huge differences between 100NL and 200NL so far, but 3k hands is a small sample obv. I haven´t adjusted yet, I´m still running 13/11/4 and didnt feel like I was completely off track with these stats. I´m gonna post detailed about the differences after 10 or 20k hands (unless I have to move down )

Day 3 of 200NL. I hope this isn´t like quitting smoking where u aren´t over it as long you´re counting the days Finished $360 up

    BR $7592

So far the difference between 100NL and 200NL is non-existant. The average stats for regulars hover around 14/6 which is quite easy to play against. I´ve run into one guy giving me trouble, but we´ve grinded 100NL together and have history. At early evenings, when there is little traffic above 1/2 midstakes regs show up, but I haven´t got involved with one of them in big pots. My adjustements so far are marginal, preflop stats are similar to 100NL as is agression. I´m playing less tables and am more focused and I hope I can maintain this level of concentration.

#1 Villian is regular nittag, too small a sample to have useful stats. Given his passiveness I didn´t see a chance to get away. C/f turn is out of the question with no reads, he played this very well.

#2 Meh, probably fucked up on my part. No reads on SB other than he seems nitty. I ran 16/15, so he might be tired of me running over the table. My thought process was like the following: Assuming he´s nitlike opening his calling range (I´ve met very few persons who adjust their 3betting range when I´m active pre) his flop range is like AT+, TT, QJ, all of them exept AJ will probably c/r. 3betting flop may blow out AJ and AQ so we call. Turn is kinda good and bad news. AJ caught up, but AQ is ready to stack off now. We have 30% equity vs {AT+, TT, QJ}, $150 in the pot villian has $90 left. Pushy pushy, no?

#3 I must admit, that I seriously considered folding KK. No joke. UTG+2 is known ultra nit from 100NL, his stats dropped from 9/4 to 8/3, he may be even more scared at 1/2. I´ve played 5k+ hands with him and he NEVER 4bets anything but AA.

#4 CO was 25/4 donk. I´ve been active.Turn actually sucks, since it hit most of his fd´s. Before I could hit the check button I´ve come to the conclusion that he´s playing back at me with so much more mid pp´s, that I couldn´t give up

reading thru the interwebs I´ve found a nice quote

“If you want to play poker to make money, you’re doing it for the wrong reasons,” says Ferguson. “You have to love the game, and you have to like to work hard.”
    from http://timharford.com/2006/05/the-poker-machine/
it´s a very long article, but definetly worth reading!
