Default The greatest movie of your childhood

    Ghost Busters or 3 Ninjas.

If you're my age, conversation ends there, correct?

    and its not even close.

I was 11 when I first saw Phoebe Cates coming out of the pool. I haven't let go of "it" ever since.

I'd probably have to say Back to the Future (pt. 1) and Independence Day. I think at one point in time, I could have recited any line (or speech) in either of those two movies.

While it is in fact the best scene in any movie evar*, you weren't a child when you got done watching it. Every mans balls dropped at the exact moment they saw this scene, this removing it from the "greatest movie of your childhood" argument.

*unless of course you're a complete nut job and think that the Aliens Scene where the face hugger gets that dude for the first time when he's peering into the egg is teh greatest scene in any movie evar.

    good flick.

about a kitten and a pug puppy who travel through the wilderness to get back home because their owners left them.

good voices, a lot of good scenes for kids.

my first instinct when you said "greatest" was Amazing Grace and Chuck, I think of greatest and favorite differently. Kids was a great movie but I didn't want to see it twice.

Goonies/Ferris/NES/Back2F/Princess Bride/Ghostbusters all movies I watched more than 25 times.

My little siblings watched Milo and Otis, Beauty and the Beast, Alladin and Jungle Book so much I could speak/sing along with every line

Goonies and Back to the Future are so far above everything else its not funny.

And I don't remember it much because I was younger, but I was really into Smokey and the Bandit too.

Oh yeah, and the karate kid was pretty damn good too.

The other answers you guys had that I really liked was ghostbusters, sword in the stone, ferris beuller, and tmnt.

    good thread!

edit: And the superman and the rocky movies!!!

    edit #2: and labyrinth!!

    National Lampoon Series
    The Goonies
    Karate Kid
    Gremlins
    Little Monsters
    The Sandlot
    Top Gun
lawl @ 3 ninjas... I liked the movie but all I can remember from it were moments when one kid would kneel behind a henchmen and one of the brothers would push him over... and about once every 30 seconds one of the kids screaming "HIYAH HIYAH HIYAH!"

Others that I don't see here are:

    Pulp Fiction
    Face Off
    Rainman
    Oh Brother Where Art Thou
Star Wars - All of them
    The Breakfast Club
    Boogie Nights
    Saving Private Ryan

    Older, but still awesome
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
    The Magnificent Seven
    Ben Hur

Oh, and the Phoebe Cates scene is absolutely one of the greatest EVER. PERIOD.

Awesome thread. So many good flicks.

GOONIES is the easy winnar here. LOL at ensign_lee and spenda not having seen it. It is EPIC.

Sandlot and Never Ending Story are tied for a close second place though...

The bot mentioned another lesser known masterpiece: The Dark Crystal. This was the first movie that I both loved and was scared of at the same time.

Didn't "Fraggle Rock" have a movie made? I can't remember now...but they were AWESOME.

For whatever reason, a movie that I had instantly thought of from my childhood was "Death Becomes her" I swear that my siblings and I watched the "Fall down Stairs" scene at the end of that for HOURS on end laughing constantly...

EDIT: What about "Lean on Me"???!!! The leeches!!
