The slow grind

Hey all,

I have been playing a cash game on Poker stars for a couple of weeks now and although I haven't suffered any major losses my bankroll hasn't seen huge growth either. I seem to be at a plateau with this cash game unable to make big gains. I am playing micro stakes NLHE. My bankroll is just hovering in one spot and I wonder if there is more I could be doing. The name of my game play is tight aggressive and it seems that most of my opponents are the same way; they wait for decent hands before they play and then like me they slow play the hand to maximize profit on the river before they win. If everyone is waiting for good hands before they make a play, are we not all going to plateau in the end and none of us will make gains? Is this just part of the game? Should I continue playing as I am? There have been times when I am playing against others and I just get a string of good cards which yielded profits for me. Should I patiently continue to wait for those times? There is the odd bluff that I pull off with success. I just hope that I am playing the right game here. I don't want to get loose and play marginal hands out of position and just basically throw my money away. I have experienced this first hand. I just don't see big gains here yet while I wait for the top cards. Maybe it depends on who I am playing against. From what I see the majority of my opponents are playing with top hands like me. Not a lot of fish from what I am seeing. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

1) Play more hands
2) Play more better
3) ???
4) Profit!

BTW... welcome! Seriously... post some hands, get some feedback. Read a sh!tload of other people's hands posts. Unless you've got at least 20K hands under your belt in the last week, you don't have much to talk about for stats... so just go hand by hand and see what people have to say.

The best thing to do is keep accurate records and review your play after every session. It takes a lot of experience to start seeing where you make money. Trust me the micro stakes at stars is full of fish, they're just all fish who have been told to be tight and aggressive, so that's what they're doing. Don't fall into the trap of just playing more, you'll keep making the same mistakes. Also, just a quick bankroll note, play in games you have at least 20 (preferably 30+) buy-ins for until you know what your comfort level is.

Less worrying about and more worrying about your play will do wonders.

If you play good eventually the $ will come so no need to worry about them

Play more hands. Read all the forum stickies. Post hands here for discussion. Post your stats (if you have poker tracker or something). Play super-disciplined. Flop sets. Get paid.

there are all sorts of fish out there, I'm pretty solid at 5nl (shark?) but would get my arse kicked at 200nl (uber-fish). Fish doesn't just mean someone who plays like a maniac...
