low pair from EP facing a raise

Not a specific hand, more of general situation. $1/2 typical full ring game.

Unknown player raises from UTG, I have or the like in UTG+1.

In a typical game, can I call this and go set hunting?

My debate is which factor is stronger: 1) getting follower callers and getting paid off when I hit my set vs. 2) the risk of a pf rr.

What are your thoughts, I struggle with this type of decision whether I'm UTG+1 or MP vs. an early raiser.

nearly always just call, utg raises generally equal big pairs that pay off big time when u flop your set, give up flop if u miss. Simple as that really.

If you get rr pf and UTG calls do you call also? What if there is a normal sized rr and UTG folds? Sorry for the non-situational questions, I just struggle with "standard" plays on low pairs.

if the rr isnt to big and utg calls and they both have 80+ bb stacks ill indeed call. If utg folds ill also generally fold unless you and the reraising villain are both deeply stacked i.e. 150 bbs+ deep and the reraise isnt to big giving you good implied odds to hit your set.

UTG raises aren't only big pairs, many players will raise medium and sometimes small pairs as well (and AK/AQ).

The problem with calling 55 is a)a reraise should force you to lay down, b)you won't have position after the flop if soemone else calls, and c)if someone else does call, it's often with a higher pair than yours, and if you get action, it's usually an overset. Same goes for UTG except he's more likely to have a premium pair and give action without a set.

Oh and I play NL100 not NL200 so it may be slightly different... I know at NL50 I'd have called with the 55 since people are worse at smelling sets.

Vs donks I think you can always call this.

'weaker' in that situation is pretty hard to define. If you don't hit your trips low pp's are prtty hard to play.

wait actually I take it back... what I meant to say is, 'if you get lots of action, it will be a better hand often enough that, combined with all the times you missed/got reraised, flatting from UTG+1 with a baby pair will become unprofitable.'
